The team is in Brooksville, FL. After a thunderstorm delay, South Walton shut-out Wewahitchka 4-0. The boys looked great and are looking forward to tomorrow's game. We will play one game a day until we lose 2...or win the tournament! Will update daily!

We had our first loss tonight. However, after pizza by the pool and throwing a good-natured Coach Dan, Coach Ed, Mrs. Coach Dan and Beachyteachy in the pool, morale seems to be back up. We have a late game tomorrow...8:30. I will update then...

South Walton baseball brings home first district title; team headed to state

Sean Boone (sean_boone@link.freedom.com)

For the first time ever, a South Walton youth major league baseball team has won a district championship.
The South Walton Majors (11-12 years) All-Star team competed in the Dixie Youth Majors District Tournament in Paxton June 20-25. They remained undefeated through the tournament and defeated the Holmes County All-Stars 3-1 in the championship game.
“I can’t believe we won,” said team member Nate Schmall. “Usually South Walton goes up there and wins like one day.”
South Walton will now compete in the 14-team state tournament starting July 12 in Brooksville, Fla.
The team faces Wewahitcka in the opening round and will continue play until they lose. The tournament championship is on July 19.
Shortstop Chandler Parrett said it felt good to bring South Walton a district trophy and thinks the team fairs well at the next level because the boys know each other very well.
“We’ve all known each other for a long time,” he said. “It probably makes us play better. We know each others strengths and weaknesses.”

Well, we are back in SoWal today after our 2nd loss. The boys played a great game, leading for most of the game. It was tied at 3-3 in the very last inning and Hardee got a home run (over the fence) with a runner on base. The boys were upset but true to form were back in good spirits when we got back to the hotel. They did a wonderful job representing SoWal and we are so proud of them!

Thanks for the pics, Tootsie! Of course, my son would be the one to hold his trophy in front of his face! We should have some game pics soon. Mr. Glover takes excellent pictures at the games.
