My wife and 8 year old son tried the course at Origins last week since we are so close and it sounded so reasonable when told that it was a 9 hole golf course, but we were in for a surprise when we arrived. First, there were no other golfers in evidence at 9am on a Wednesday, second, the course is actually two courses butting up against each other looks to me. One is an executive course; that means it is is a 3-par course and has 10 holes! Not 9, 10! Although we must've passed the 10th on our way to the clubhouse, we played the 9 and it was OK, not a challenge if one plays golf, but OK. After we had played two holes several groups started pushing behind us so we let them play thru. Both groups were men playing the executive course drinking beer. I have no objections to men playing and drinking, just remarking on the morning. The regular course is only 6 holes! 6 holes, mind you, not 8 or 9 or 10 or 18, but 6. So there it is, an anomalie in Watersound's back 40. As I mentioned, the course is OK in good shape and the greens are a bit ragged and long but playable. The rates were a bit much at $25 to walk and $35 to ride a cart on either of the routes. The course Marshall was friendly and efficient, plenty of parking and maintenance was evident everywhere although that may hev been due to the 4th's activities scheduled for that area. The community pool sign suggested that it wasn't ready yet so we didn't take a gander at it, but it was also to be part of the 4th's activities.
All in all a good experience for a kid or wife and husband who are new to golf, but kind of a letdown for a veteran golfer. My opinion only. We'll play again since my son and wife enjoyed it. Next time, I may bring the beer.:D
