Sounds like they want to assess all the Daughette property owners for dredging and maintaining the canals. Details are limited to the link above. Make your voice heard if you want to have a say.

I thought the assessment was just for canal front owners.:idontno:

It may be Bobby, but I cannot find any info regarding which lots are included. IMO, it should be for canal front lots only, since they are the only ones whom benefit from the dredging, since the interior lot owners have no access to the canals. Did you receive notice from the County regarding the issue? Non-canal front owners received no notice of the assessments going to public hearing.

The voluntary assessment for the canal front owners was a great start, but unfortunately, in these tough times, many people are on tight budgets and ideals don't alway turn into reality. If the costs were spread over all the benefiting properties, the cost per owner would be much easier for people to absorb. I know many people who live on the canals and have paid voluntarily, even though they don't personally use the canals. Their property values should increase due to having navigable canals, and they realize that value, even though they don't plan on selling any time soon. I think the problem with voluntary assessments for the canal front owners is that so many of those lots are wooded lots, and the owners are in long-term hold mode, not using the canals at all.

I think the property is being brought back to the original intent of the developer. The timing is just tough.
