My husband and I moved here last september and he has been going crazy not playing soccer (football as he calls it!). He used to play in a local league and misses it terribly. Is there a group that plays around here?

Ask around the Red Bar. I was just noticing their 2008 trophy yesterday.

Go to Helen McCall Park (on Moll Dr. - 1 mile west of 393 on 98) most any evening. There are always "pick up" games being played. Also check with Christian he's the Pres. of the local youth soccer group and plays a good bit himself (he's on the SoWal board sometimes). He can tell you what times of year the adult league plays.

Did someone say "soccer" or "football" (the round kind)??

30abob is correct that I can help. While US98 Soccer (the community-based, community-run, local non-profit soccer organization, www.us98soccer.com (http://www.us98soccer.com)) has not yet started a men's or women's or both league here in South Walton, we do have plans for that in the future. I just need to get some other people involved to help me organize it, or just more time to do it myself.

However, Destin has a Men's and Intramural League that plays in the Fall and Spring, as it is just too hot in the Summer. Contact Destin Parks & Rec for more info, or as mentioned above, bend Oli's ear when you get the chance.

Feel free to ask away on any other local soccer items, as I most likely can help!

Enjoy the Euro 2008 Final!!

Deutschland!!!

Cheers,
Christian

When we arrived home from the beach, daughter and her German boyfriend were drinking German beer and watching soccer. He speaks perfect English (actually better than I do -- I speak Southern  ), but was cheering in German. He was sad that Germany lost.

How'd this turn into the Euro 2008 thread????....................

Also, forgot to mention earlier, pick-up soccer on Wednesdays at 6:00 PM, Sunday at 9:00 AM, at least for now. I'll try to keep things updated at www.us98soccer.com (http://www.us98soccer.com).

Cheers!
