I included everything I could but still had to leave a couple of questions and answers out. This is the condensed version. We are discussing another forum and the possibility of doing a pod cast for it, so, everyone can view it.

Just wanted to say thanks for posting for I was unable to attend the forum.

Ditto on the thanks, hon...while I already know which way I'm leaning, I still wanted to go but was out of town on the date.

They actually brought up deputies who smoke? Wow...that's not an issue for us as Fuzz doesn't smoke. But I remember when I did, and I'd hate to cross paths with a smoker cop who is nearing the end of a nicotene-deprived 10-hour shift. :creepy:

But I do agree that if they can't smoke, they shouldn't be able to dip either. One of my pet peeves is male tobacco users who brag about quitting smoking and then pack their face with half a can of Cope.

It seems like the most frequently used line in the forum was "me too." There was nothing that really separated any of the candidates from one another. Most of the evening was spent trying not to offend anyone. :pissed: I would like to know for example if Adkinson or Cooper prohibit smoking on duty in their own organizations? Bet not. :confused:Probably the saddest thing is that these are the choices as Johnson and Griffith did not even bother to attend. Guess the best thing I can say is that Cornman did distinguish himself from the other candidates in one way, he has hair while the rest of the group looked in bad need of makeup or rogaine.:yikes: Hopefully the discourse will improve with age like a fine wine.:bang::bang::bang:

The question of deputies being able to smoke in county cars and in uniform was the next question to draw a response. Adkinson responded, “I think it’s a known fact at this point the health damage that smoking can lead to. At the DeFuniak Police Department, we have adopted a zero tolerance policy while in uniform. As adults, when off the clock, they can choose to do as they like, but not while in uniform. It has to do with the message it sends to the children.”

The article got edited, but all agreed that officers should not be allowed to smoke or dip in uniform and on the clock.

It might not be a bad idea to find out why they were not there before making such a comment. You might be surprised to know that there was a reason for at least one of them not being there - he wasn't just sitting around twiddling his thumbs!

Thanks Jdarg:wave:

I looked over it this morning and found a typo. Whenever I do an article this size it goes to my editors. It went though one for editing and another for proofing and I don't usually see it till it's in print. So my apologies to Mr. Brown for the following typo. I think it was a spell check that changed it.

Brown said, “I think we need to see an underage drinking court in this county. I’d like to see us mirror the underage drinking court in Koalas County. They have a very good programs that works.”

Koalas should be Okaloosa county.

Hey. Don't diss bald guys. :nono1: If Fuzz and I both had to fix our hair in the mornings, it just wouldn't do. ;-) :floor:
And, I don't have anything against "me too" answers, as Mike, Tom and Tony are all fine law enforcement officers. Obviously, to most questions the one with an original answer is going to be the one who got the microphone first.

I'm about as anti-smoking as they come, but I just think the no smoking ON DUTY is going a bit far. Perhaps not in the cars, as we are not allowed to smoke in the county vehicles we use, and not indoors, but even my employer allows folks to take a break during the morning, at lunch and in the afternoon, outside and away from the public entrances of our building, as long as the work flow permits - and we aren't on 10-hour shifts. While I wish people didn't smoke, I don't see a thing wrong with lighting up in the sally port or the parking lot. (And unless he has quit, I know AT LEAST one DFSPD officer who smokes...and I'm sure Sandestin Security has at least one too.)

I'd also like to add that the candidates were ask to raise their hand and the article was written in the same order as they answered. So, sometimes they chose not to respond after another candidate or added just a bit to another answer.

Dawg....this is political season....when you don't show up for a forum...the candidate needs to get the word out why. It looks bad and there is an obvious problem with invisible Ralph and the constituents are sensative about availability. We have a ghost sheriff and we want all cadidate spirits on stage. If the candidate doesn't realize that...he needs to get out of the race.

Note: If the candidate notified the forum reps that he could not attend, then I would hope it was announced at the forum why he wasn't there.

I am wondering...did the no shows tell the forum reps why they could not attend? There could be a good reason and it would help the no show candidates to explain why. Media?.......Aleonard? any scoop on this??

Dawg....do YOU have any scoop on this? It appears that you know something we don't....so why not spill it????

My understanding was that they were invited, but did not attend? No mention of a response or no response to the invitation was noted by the moderator and that's all I know:idontno:

I was recently informed that several citizens had raised concerns on sowal.com about my absence at the public forum on Thursday June 12 th. I would like to take this opportunity to respond to those concerns. Prior to the forum, I advised the sponsor that I would not be able to attend due to a conflict with my work schedule. It was my understanding that the reason for my absence would be announced so that the citizens would be informed that I was not simply a "no show". As some of you may know, I am employed by the Floride Highway Patrol/State of Florida. Per the rules of the state, I am prohibited from participating in any campaign events or discussing my campaign while in uniform. Additionally, I was required to take an extended leave of absence from my employment in order to actually begin my campaign efforts. Unfortunately, my leave from employment did not begin until 6/16/08. I now have the opportunity to put my campaign into motion and participate in upcoming events. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me at griffith4sheriff@gdsys.net with any additional questions or concerns. Thank You.

I stand corrected. I did not read any reports of this being mentioned at the forum, so I felt the question was a valid one. I look forward to hearing more about your platform and qualifications.

Hi Idlewind,

It wasn't reported because there was no mention to report. I believe the moderator told the audience "all had been invited and these six were able to attend." :idontno: I was not involved with the organization of the forum just asked to cover it, so I was not given any info the public was not given.
