There's what, a half a dozen candidates running for district 5 commissioner, is there one who will represent all SoWal, not just 30A?

I think that question requires someone to come up with what are the common issues. So far, I have only seen one commissioner candidate intensely scrutinized in this forum. Others seemed to be taking part in some sort of a lovefest and do not appear to be required to state their positions on important issues. But that may be just the way I am reading things.

There should be two SoWal Commissioners. District 5 and District 1. Then, the District 5 Commissioner wouldn't be so overloaded and could concentrate on West SoWal and District 1 would be available to handle East SoWal.

But again, that nasty requirement of setting up districts has prevented that from occurring so far. I think that she was trying to point out that the next Dist 5 commissioner needs to be concerned with more than just one stretch of road.

Yes, the Miramar Beach and Sandestin area is the largest precinct in the county and has many issues that need attention. The Santa Rosa precinct is also large and has its unique issues. So much is going on in SoWal, it really is a huge job. We've heard what Cindy Meadows thinks on many issues. Not so much from anyone else.

And who would that be? Meadows did a poor job representing the people I know.

Could you give a few specific examples?
Seems like we should have 3 In SoWaL- 1 for west of 30A and 2 for 30a.

And what makes you guys so special? Maybe we should have one for each city, your three, and one for east rural, one for west rural, one for the Gaskin area since it is not a city.
Why the need for all the commissioners? They set policy and budgets. Not like they go out there and dig the ditches themselves.

I second this request. I think she has done a very good job all the way around and has been extremely responsive when something is brought to her attention or a request is made of her. And, no, you didn't always get what you wanted regardless of who you were.

Lets see, the dog fly plane was one good example, placing street signs, ie stop signs without engineering studies or following the federal mandates is another. And what about the proactive code enforcement? And let's not forget the cats on leashes ordeal, or the spay/neuter ordinance. On the flip side, what about the widening of 331, or affordable housing?

Were all these issues 4-1 votes? Who made the motion, second, who abstained or was absent? Who never commented in public one way or the other?

Better yet, fg, I know about the dog fly plane but wth are you talking about with cats on leashes and a spay/neuter ordinance?
I believe we should have a spay/neuter ordinance, but I don't remember one being brought up. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention, but I think I would have jumped on the wagon for that one.

Cats on leashes!
I know the hilarious reality of trying to get a cat on a leash or to move once it's on, but fail to see what is wrong with the idea that animals should be restrained in some way when they are outside their own yards/homes or spayed/neutered. :idontno:

I tried to put a cat on a leash once, that was hilarious! My beef, is the recession/depression going on currently, that apparently doesn't affect certain folks on 30a, that is the expense involved, and the lack of concern about said recession.

Oh gosh, I think the recession is hitting 30A pretty hard. I actually think it's hitting 30A harder than other areas.
I've never seen so many people pile into houses in my life...It's like clowns in a phone booth around here, but the people aren't eating in restaurants or buying things in a shop. They're piling into houses to save money, and cooking instead of going out.
That's hurting everyone...this is a tourist based economy.
With that said, I don't know how much a county commissioner can do about a recession.
I just worry about how the county will handle the abandoned properties.

I thought the restaurants were pretty full...all week and especially on weekends.

It is irritating to me the apparent lack of concern for all of Walton County residents, during this difficult time. Instead of creating more codes with monetary fees, penalties, expenses, they need to focus on issues alleviating it's citizens.

Spaying/neutering animals saves $ in the long run.
What exactly do you want them to do? Set up a soup kitchen at the annex? All of those fees BTW are what help PAY for the programs.
Forgive my lack of humor about the recession/depression that supposedly isn't affecting me in the slightest - all the #$*%@* feral cats get frisky and interrupt my sleep during full moons.

I am so sick of the feral cats. The neighborhood I live in puts them out on purpose. It's so nasty and inhumane.

:funn: That's what Whiskers friends was all about, but apparently lacked donations! This is a SoWal problem, not enough dogs to patrol the neighborhoods I guess! Climb up the food chain! :funn:

Forget the dogs, I want coyotes to start getting medieval on the feral cat population!
Seriously though, what do you think the county commissioners should be doing to help it's suffering non-30A locals? :idontno:
Their attempts to give preference to "local" businesses during bidding was a total clusterpuck, they've gone to a 4 day work week in some areas to reduce the transportation/gas costs for working folks, and they are trying to institute fines so the people who violate or abuse services pay instead of raising taxes.

They seriously need to reevaluate the county wages, need to concentrate on getting 331 4 laned, (6-laned?), need create more affordable housing and/or ease restrictions on said projects. Help small business get started, and maintain by easing non constructive requirements containing fees. To name a few.

You only try to put a cat on a leash once. After that, the cat has taught you a lesson.

I'll have to say that I am very grateful to Cindy Meadows for standing up for our neighborhood and helping to stop a beachfront, high-density development south of 30A.

Cindy meadows is awesome. I am still trying to digest the fact that she is not running for re-election.:(
She has intelligence and vision.

One more beef, the money that was originally spent for the "blue signs", what happened to it? Did the county just throw it away, or did the complainers reimburse the funds?
