My heart is broken after the Belmont today. Hope Big Brown is okay! Thought 30 years would be the charm! Anyone?

Yeah, we've been looking forward to this since the Preakness. We wanted Big Brown to win, but more importantly we didn't want him to get hurt like Eight Belles did at the Derby. Hopefully he's okay and that it was just the heat.
I'll have to admit that there was a lot of commercialization with UPS logos everywhere. But that's not the horse's fault.

Yes I thought he would do it but was REALLY glad the jockey decided to hold him back and not let him be injured. But am still wishing that I had a couple of bills on Da Tara
been gone, what happened to Big Brown?

he cracked a toe nail, but the jockey has no clue why he didn't run.
That horse is about to become a very happy horse. Who knows how much his sperm will sell for and how many buyers there will be?

Breeding right have already been sold for $12 mil. If he had won, each breeding would have brought $300,000. He can probably do about 100 a year.

He did not have his steroid shot this month. Maybe that made the difference. :idontno:

I have never been an "I told you so" type, but I called this one. When I found out he drew the one slot on the rail, I told my wife "they will bump him into the rail right out of the gate and he'll never recover." That's pretty much what happened. I don't think the cracked hoof had anything to do with it.

I heard they scratched another horse prior to race time due to a hoof problem. I just don't think Big Brown had it to go that distance. He looked like he wasn't acting right from even before the race started. Poor horse. I don't normally watch horse races. But our UPS driver at our work was wearing Big Brown buttons on his uniform and even gave me one. He was talking about the race for several days. I am sure he was disappointed.

Agree and the heat, he was really lathered up, more so than other horses.

I had heard commentary on the predictions of the race a couple of days prior, and one analyst said that the other horses would try to pin Big Brown to the rail , but watching the race, I didn't see that happen. Did you see it differently? I called myself really trying to watch for that.
I was somewhat kidding about the "cracked a toenail" comment. The jockey stated that he didn't feel any trouble out of that leg of the horse.

I feel like I am late to this party, but just wanted to state my point of view on the race. When we get back to racing these wonderul creatures on hay, oates and water only, we will have another triple crown. The trainer of Big Brown said weeks ago that he gave all of his horses a shot of Winstroll once a month, but due to the controversy raised latley (the same steroid Roger Clemmons, Barry Bonds, etc. is in trouble for) Big Brown did not have one since April 15. Several equine vets that I have seen since this came out claim that in race horses the drug just makes them eat more and gain weight, and also that it helps build muscle mass. We will never know the true ability of Big Brown due to the fact that he was enhanced on this drug and then taken off two months prior to the race. I guess my point is what is illegal for human athletes should apply to our animal athletes as well. It breaks my heart to think what he could have done on his own with no enhancment. Maybe the one thing good that will come out of this is steroids will finally be banned in horse racing as it is in every other sport.

He got bumped to the rail pretty hard at the start, then again. The jockey then cut him way outside to keep it from happening again and I think it took him out of his comfort zone.
Ms Chelle late to the party but right on the money, this horse missed his dose and apparently he needed it. He had nothing, running 3 races in 6 weeks is extremely hard on these animals. Dutrow said it himself he he wasn't contending he would skip Belmont.
I think he screwed up as Winstroll is still legal in KY, NY, Maryland, but will be a banned substance next year at most meets. Horse racing needed this shot in the arm(triple crown) as with casinos popping up everywhere, dark days loom for this industry. Many smaller tracks barely standing on one leg as it is, not to mention the unfortunate eight belles accident.
