I'm sitting here on the 4th floor watching a storm scour through 30A, (yep--I have the window open!) and I'm thinking that in the dozen years I've been coming here I've never actually watched a storm in SoWal.

Lightning, wind, sheets of rain are things I see at home (rarely, it seems) but I really like the rolling waves in the background. Gawjus...

Makes me rully, rully happy...

I keep waiting for the funn to stop so I can take a shower.

Oh...it gets better! So, Mr. K finally gets me home and guess who calls...KIMMIFUNN! Next thing I know, she is at my door and we end up at B & A's for a nightcap (Colorado Bulldog for me). Met her funny friends. Kept asking her how I was getting home...she kept saying Paradise Taxi. I started walking (using this term lightly) home (mind you it is like 1:30 am by this point) and started whining to myself and called Mr. K!!! Guess who was up working! He now has another story to hold over my head.

OMG. If you were there, you know what I'm saying.

Kitty and I were making it rain from atop the bar at the Red Bar. Phead had to confirm Kaiboo's age and I may have to re-visit my eye doctor after kitty lodged large hunks of confetti in my eyes. Shamoo and I were convinced I may go blind.

I have major rager voice and left my dignity with my empty handle of crown at the red bar

Stuck in Houston- More later...

We just had some flurries, too, both in Hotlanta and when I got home. But it's colder than all get-out here. Thank goodness my dad thought to go turn on the heat in my house before I got here!

40 isn't exactly warm, Toots!

It's all the way up to 29 now. Obviously I did NOT go to work today--it has to be 33 before I will start working outside...I'm still in my fleece pajamas and wool socks!

That's what you get for living up there!

I shouldn't be whining--I would truly love nothing better than a nice, cold winter with a couple of good snows. (Even though my school doesn't have snow days.)

But I didn't realize that m bedroom had sprung a couple of drafts. I gotta fix those pronto...

You are right! It's no funn here in January. The only way I get through these next two cold months is thinking about being at the beach in April. Good luck fixing those drafts!

I'm assuming that someone who use to work for a landscaping company would know the hearty waterless plants. Oh you did say the above. Is that kind of a Darwin Garden you have? :funn:

It is now!

There are plants which are naturally drought-tolerant, and plants that prefer wet feet. The wet feet kind can be taught to survive in drier conditions, but they won't thrive. Generally, the others can be trained.

Most people overwater. You have to train a plant to be drought resistant. If you're watering every day, you're training it to need water every day. I tell my clients to water new plants once a week, but water deeply. After a few weeks, cut that to once every two weeks, then once a month. By the second year, they are doing fine with whatever rain they get.

Of course, that's in Georgia clay. Sand dries out quicker, so I'm not sure how much of my lake you need on your plants.

2 32oz. cups per week. We have two whole peace lillies that we haven't killed yet. The cactus garden didn't fair as well.
