View Full Version : The Kennedy Mantle Now Being Passed onto Obama.

My prayers are with Senator Ted Kennedy and his wonderful family--he is a great fighter and my prayers are with him, hopefully carrying him back to the U.S. Senate again as the hardest working Senator in history.
There is now a spiritual shift happening in politics all over the world.
Ted Kennedy's strong support for Obama is the first time a Kennedy family member is strongly supporting someone "outside" their geneological family.
What we are seeing is the "poitical mantle of change" being passed on eventually from the Kennedy's (Joe, Sr., Joe, Bobby, John) to the Obama's. I truly believe that God has ordained this!
Respectfully, mentioning John F. Kennedy in the same breath with Obama is like mentioning W in the same breath with Ronald Reagan.
Obama hasn't even completed a full term in the Senate and never served in the House (not to mention no time in the military).
And you are saying all this is ordained by God?
Uh, OK.

Yes. I am. We all have to believe.

Ha,ha. Ted Kennedy has worked more with John McCain than Barack Obama. Having Ted Kennedy's support must feel like drowning, while trapped in a car under water. If you are judging only by his support for Obama, please tell me what it means that a former top-ranking leader of the KKK, Sen Robert Byrd, is supporting Sen Obama for the Dem candidate for President.
"Robert Byrd commented on the 1945 controversy about racially integrating the military. Byrd, when he was 28 years old, wrote to segregationist Senator Theodore Bilbo, of Mississippi, vowing never to serve in such a military:
Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.
He had earlier written "I shall never fight in the armed forces with a ***** (another word for a black person) by my side"."
*************
I guess Sen Byrd is a true politician.

Haven't heard much from Kennedy lately. Has he killed anyone recently and ran like a coward? Just asking.

Do you have a reading comprehension problem? Did I even mention TED Kennedy?

I think, under the circumstances, that that is an unforgivable and insensitive statement.

...and leaving a girl to drown in your car and running like a coward, is more than an insensitive statement. -- It is down-right wrong!

I think Kennedy's recent diagnosis is horrible. But you are dead-on. Of course, had Chappaquiddick never happened, he would likely have been a two-term president.
Have you ever read his account of what happened? Shameful.

There is no doubt that Ted Kennedy is a leftist's leftist, but the man has been slapped with a death sentence less than 36 hours ago. If you feel like he did something extraordinarily wrong at Chappaquiddick (as I do) I understand, but for goodness sake, act with a bit of the human compassion we have criticized him of lacking that night and spare the venom.

I think you lost everyone when you declared that Teddy Kennedy endorsing Obama was something ordained by God. There's absolutely nothing mystical, mythical, or whatever you want you to call it about one politician endorsing another. It happens all the time, particularly during election years. ;-)

I agree. My grandfather died of the same type tumor. I think the diagnosis and Chappaquiddick have to be separated (and that's exactly what I am trying to do).
In all honesty, we probably shouldn't even be talking about Chappaquiddick in light of this recent horrible news for him.

Well if that had been stated in the first post of this forum titled, "Politics and Current Events," and I would have stated my thoughts differently. Not everyone listens to the news 24-7. The first post mentions nothing of Ted Kennedy's health. It sounds more political than anything else. I thought this was another promotion for him running for re-election. If you had not posted the above post, I still wouldn't know he has a tumor.

I have an idea. I think everyone who posts in this formun should reveal every mistake, lapse in judgement. Path not taken that should have...and everyone gets to vote on their transgressions and rank the offenses. It is only fair. Awhole lot of judging others passes for discourse here. Comeon now, everyone here is so squeaky clean. The winner will recieve ...I don't know any suggestions oh, and we must go back to adolescense. Nothing is to be ommitted. Let's see those ruby red rears. Enough running your mouth...Oh, and isn't something like "judgenot, lest ye be also judged in the Bible"..I believe that morality and religion are very selectively exhibited. Usually in the context of whatever someone wants to say to condemn someone else. Anyway, get those pens and papers ready and start you list. Post only when your list of "sins" is complete with no ommissions. This will take a while so I'll get back later. It is ever so much more difficult to judge yourself than it is to judge others but you guys are so alsolute in your judgements and opinions, I know you can do this.....

That's a little over-the-top, don't you think?
Me getting a speeding ticket when I was 17 is hardly comparable to Sen. Kennedy committing reckless manslaughter and perjury.

I beg to differ. In light of this horrible news and it is horrible, I've already heard radio talking heads mention his legacy. His legacy is that he is a pedophile and a killer. He doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as his brother(s) except in regards to family matters.

I'm afraid that my answer would be the same as Charles Barkley's the first time he mentioned running for governer of Alabama when asked if he had any skeletons in his closet. Hell, I've got a graveyard in my closet.

I think Sir Charles' political career has been effectively ended before it got started due to a little $400K misunderstanding in Vegas.

true dat - While I am NO FAN of T. Kennedy I don't wish this on anyone. My father died of a brain tumor and it is not a good way to go. (as if any illness is)
BUT, T. Kennedy has not thought of others or their families in the past, so while I refrain from making comments that i really want to make, the rest of you keep em coming...

I don't know if this qualifies as embellishment, but I found this column today by David Broder to be both touching and enlightening. Broder has been around the scene for over 40 years and is a well-respected Wash Post columnist.
I have never been a big fan of Kennedy, and what he did all those years ago was horrible, but it appears from what Broder writes that he has spent much of the rest of his life trying to make up for it. I give him credit for that, and I suspect others do too.
Not since the day almost 45 years ago, when word reached Washington that his brother John had been cut down in Dallas, has there been news about an individual that struck so deep a blow to so many in this capital. The bulletin from Massachusetts General Hospital about Sen. Ted Kennedy was at once a personal tragedy and a political cataclysm.
In his 45 years in the Senate, Kennedy has probably touched more people, in more cherished ways, than any other public figure. And his illness threatens to alter, for the worse, the prospects of every other politician -- starting with Barack Obama and John McCain.
Like countless others, I have witnessed over the years the kindnesses Kennedy lavished on colleagues and friends -- and even on casual acquaintances. It was decades ago when another senator told me that, in complete privacy, Kennedy was sitting for hours with Sen. Philip Hart of Michigan, who had an illness that made him irascible and difficult to manage. Somehow, Kennedy calmed him.
When my beloved friend Mary McGrory, the great columnist at the Washington Star and Washington Post, had a stroke that left her almost robbed of speech, Kennedy and his wife continued to visit her, as before, drinking a glass of wine and regaling her with stories. At Christmas season, he brought along a piano-playing friend and sang Irish ballads for her.
Somehow in his more-than-busy life, he always seemed to find time for those personal touches -- and to perform them without seeming to realize how much they meant to the recipients. Their affection and gratitude were all but overwhelming yesterday.
