So....we get to the Wells bridge about 2 p.m Thursday and had a fairly uneventful trip the rest of the way. Turned into Watersound and....wow. What an amazing development. More on that later.
Unpacked and headed straight to the beach. Bit of a long walk, but the boardwalks that wind through the dunes are so beautiful, you don't mind. For those staying at Watersound, some kind of wheeled beach buggy is highly recommended. Red flags were out but water temp was fine. Splashed around a little and drank beer until six or so.
Headed back up, showered and headed toward Grayton. Got drinks from Red Bar and hung out in front of the Zoo for awhile (great spot to people watch). Hung out there for an hour or so and drove around to Borago. I Always love the bar scene there, so we just decided to stay and eat. Food was decent, but it wasn't my best meal ever at Borago.
On Friday, Wifey decided to shop so I headed to the beach at nine a.m. Started drinking WAY too early (again, more on that later.) By three or so, I am completely cooked (in more ways than one), so I go back up to the pool. Wife is waiting on me there, we swim for awhile, shower and head over to Beachbummet's house, which amazingly is only a block away.
So incredibly fun finally meeting some folks from here. She was a wonderful hostess and we had a big time. For those who met me, bear in mind I had been drinking beer essentially all day, so JB was a little, oh, what is the word.....dusky. Nomally, I'm a little more lucid. Either way, it was big fun and she has a wonderful home.
Anyhoo, it was also our tenth anniversary so we headed to Cafe Thirty-A for dinner. As always, service was great. Our appy's were outstanding. But the fish entree (at least mine) wasn't good. I got cobia and it was covered with salsa and way too much cumin. I couldn't even taste the fish. I'll give them a pass because I've had so many good meals there over the years.
Saturday morning was overcast, so we headed up to the West Indies market at Rosemary, Walked around, looked at art and had a nice lunch at Wild Olives. The sun finally came out, so we headed back and hung out at the pool. Beachbummet obviously saw us out there and joined us for some sun. We eventually wound up over at the Beach Club for a drink, and wow, what an unreal facility, Beautifully-designed, perfectly landscaped. Just wonderful.
Went back, made a batch of margaritas and we all drank them at the pool. Fun stuff. After much tequila, neither wifey nor I were in the mood for a lavish dinner, so we just went to Shades.
On Watersound - I'm not a huge St. Joe fan, but they did a fabulous job with this property. Everything is designed to fit into the natural dune landscape, with minimal invasive construction. We essentially had the whole place to ourselves all weekend. It was awesome. Very few folks around - which was nice for a trip like this.
That's about it. We'll be back in late summer after school starts back.
Carry on.....
