Reminder -- Postage increases on Mon, May 12. It's going up one penny per letter, but you still have to buy that extra damn penny stamp, unless you use the leftover Forever stamps.

It's a pain in the rear end to keep buying those stupid penny stamps to go with my leftover Christmas stamps, but it's still amazing to think I can send a love note across the country for less than 50 cents.

This may just push me into the 21st century and do online banking.

This may just push me into the 21st century and do online banking.

A word of caution - The online bill pay service at your bank isn't necessarily instant bill pay. Most banks only guarantee 5 business days. That's because if the payee isn't set up for EFT, the bank just PRINTS AND MAILS a check, just like you would. Voice of experience here, I've gotten late fees on bills paid online 3 to 5 calendar days prior to the due date.

For critical stuff, like credit card bills with heinous late fees, you're better off using the EFT feature on the credit card's web site, which draws the money directly and instantly from your bank account. It's a little tedious, and I honestly don't find that it saves much, if any, time over scribbling out a check and dropping it into an envelope.

just wait for a little while longer, NoHall. Your amazement will soon diminish when prices of the first class postage exceed $.50, which I bet they do in the very near future.

With the stories I have to tell about mail, I ALWAYS use EFT. That, and I'm always waiting until the last day to pay a bill.
