That belongs with the thread about banning "Truckticals".... Another stupid, right wing, politician (only from Ga. this time) with nothing better to do--what about coming up with new laws to conserve water in that drought stricken state?)

Anyway, trying to conclude that these magazines contribute directly to a "rise" in sexual assault on military bases, like the article said, probably wouldn't hold up "under scrutiny."

The only "rise" that I see would be a healthy, beneficial one for male soldiers away from wife or girlfriend, if you get my drift! Keep the magazines on the bases!

Seems like a solider that could no longer enjoy some solo time in the privacy of his/her own room would be more likely to seek outside partners while TDY, whether the soldier is married or not.

As long as pornographic images are not displayed in workplaces or common areas, let the soldiers have their fun on their own time.

I don't feel that selling Playboy presents a safety/harrassment issue or breaks down the family structure. I do feel that these idiots need something better to worry/legislate about.

Multiple and extended deployments are much more of a danger to "family." As are inadequate medical/mental health care, improper equipment, and getting involved in religion based guerilla warfare.

Absense makes the heart grow fungus, not reading a Penthouse.

The cadets at my school will be very upset about this...

Based on some supremely horrific first date conversations w/ military guys, the PX not selling Playboy won't have a big impact on the porn level of the military. If they can sneak it into the Middle East, they can manage to get it to Germany (or buy it off base).

apparently, the only way one can communicate with this fool by email is if you live in his state, which seems to the the state of confusion. only GA residents can write him to tell him he really needs to be focusing on topics that matter.

Maybe we should send him some subscriptions to some magazines, so he can get off some stress.

Don't worry. GI's can always find a way to puruse naked women.

There is another method I have found to be fulfilling and self satisfying and that is to call the Senate/House number in Washington D.C. and ask for the Representative's office. I usually start out by saying, "I am not a constituent of so and so but as a retired military person, I consider ALL Senators and Representatives my Representative/Senator and go from there. Do not, of course, expect to talk to the Representative or Senator. They are above talking to citizens without an appointment. But it is fun to talk to, and sometimes harass their interns. The numbers to accomplish all this if you are so inclined are: (202) 224-3121 or (202) 225-3121. As I said, I have never talked directly to the Representative or Senator but you do get your message past on and you are told it will reach the intended politician.

All those opinions get compiled into a summarized report for the Senator/Representative. If only one or two people call it's gonna go at the end of the report and you'd be lucky if they ever read it. Take the same approach as plenty of groups and keep calling. Restate everything almost word for word, it still goes in.

The squeeky wheel gets the grease.

We agree on this and while I realize it makes little or NO impact on the scheme of things, it is still a lot of fun and if your mad enough about something the venting is soothing to the soul.

Just one more example of government gone whacko and why I am a Libertarian. On the congressman's website, he claims to adhere to a four part test for bills and one of his questions is whether it is moral. Just what I need: the government deciding morality for me.

Economic liberty coupled with personal liberty. Come to the bright side folks.

Very true. I wonder if they tape those, there's got to be some good ones out there. ;-)

If they do, it is a wonder they have not come to haul me off to jail considering some of the comments I've made regarding the abilities and sensibilities of some of the Representatives and Senators I have called. I agree. In all seriousness, I am sure they hear much worse than what I have to say. They are usually extremely courteous and portray a sincerity in whatever you are saying. I've only had one hang up on me in the many calls I've made. She was an aide to a black Congresswoman from California whose name escapes me at the moment. BTW, I have to be really incensed at something in order to call.
