View Full Version : Weather Forecasting - Stormy seas?

I was looking at the weather for the next 10 days on weather.com, which I know some of you don't care for the Weather Channel as they keep on and on during hurricane coverage, overdoing it really. For next Friday they are showing stormy seas with a 60% chance of rain. I'm wondering how they can predict something 9 days away. Our local weather guys here cannot predict the weather here hardly just a day in advance. While it would be neat to see something like that I would rather it not be on our last day to enjoy the beach. Just curious, is that something seen very often there, aside from hurricanes and this early???

I suppose it depends on what they call stormy seas...
We had some pretty good waves overnight after the big line of thunderstorms blew through 3 ro 4 days ago. But nothing like what happens from a hurricane near-miss.
I pay littl attention to forecasts more than a day out, except for trends. Stormy seas probably means they are expecting windy conditions. The weather channel and weather.com have dropped off my map. I've been using http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=32459
Replace 32459 with your zip. The radar and satellite images are much better and easier to use also.

Hers's your site. Loop it and a 3rd grader can figure this out. It's global. http://www.ghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/GOES/goeseastconusir.html

Thanks Kurt and everyone. Now that same site is not showing that. They also are showing isolated showers about 4 of the days we are there also. Too far in advance for that to be predicted. I will put that zip code instead.

Well, we definitely had stormy seas Sunday. And constant wave breaking over wave the entire week practically, and storms Thursday and Friday.

Well BoomerSooner, I wish I could tell you but we came back home yesterday. We did watch the weather Friday night on the news and they were showing highs in the mid to upper 80's this next week but I did not really pay attention to the lows or whether rain was expected this next week. Hopefully a local will answer that question for you.

Last night they were saying there was a chance of rain today. I'm sitting on my back porch and it's incredible right now. The rest of the week is supposed to be rainy until Saturday, but they've been "chicken littling" it for a while.
