For all of the "women's libbers" like me out there who are old enough to remember being discriminated against because we are female, there's always "Hillary 2012"! Or "Condoleezza 2012" -- even better!

Not to worry. I bet Saturday Night Live will soon announce that Sen Obama has sent Rev Wright to join the other Reverends Jesse JackSOME and Al NOTSOSharp-ton, on missions to non-existent countries in Africa, to keep them occupied until this election is over. Sounds like Hillary should have sent Bill on a similar mission.

When I see that Hillary needs to lend her campaign millions of dollars it makes me think that:
A) Her campaign is poorly run which makes me question how she well she would do as President...
B) Support is waning for her...
Is there a way that she could just legally foot this bill- give the money to her campaign rather than a loan?
I think a lot of folks out there would admire that and it could sway some needed votes...
If I was a decision maker in her campaign I would have someone "leak" it to the media and coach Hillary to act shy about it and once the story reached a critical mass have her speak out about how deeply she believes in her cause and that she sees it fit to put skin in the game ("How I can I look Americans in the eye and ask them for their support when I myself haven't invested")...
What do you guys think?

Unless her campaign pays back her personal loan to her campaign, she IS giving the money to her campaign. She only calls it a loan, so that she can get more people to donate, repaying herself. It's not like they need the money, though. She has surely given enough promises that she and Bill can take in plenty of money in any given year.

Agreed. But my point/question is-
Do you think the fact that it is called a loan makes her look bad and that if it was positioned as skin in the game that it would make her look good?

Maybe it does to some people. But any personal contributions by a candidate are always listed as a loan. I saw when Imfeld dropped out from the local Sheriff's race, he paid his loans to himself back and then distributed the monies to a non-proft. This is pretty much how it is done.

G
How it looks doesn't matter anymore. She's out to recover her losses. That $6.4 million doesn't factor in the millions in unpaid bills she still owes small vendors going back to Iowa. She's going to lose skin, but if she acknowledges how bad her debt truly is, she knows it will be the death knell and she won't be able to raise anymore money, period.
There's a reason she asked for money in the first line of her speech last night. No one, no matter how rich, wants to lose 25-30% of their net worth on a failed candidacy.

G
No, I don't think calling it a loan makes her look bad, though it does show her cards (the campaign is broke and has no more turnips to squeeze). I don't think the average person even knows that she loaned money to her campaign to help keep her in the game.
For those who keep up with poliTRICKS, they all know that she has milked the deep pockets for all they can legally give, and that Sen Obama, keeps getting new money from new people. He will likely be well-positioned to fight McCain with advertising.
I think many Obama's newness and lack of record scares many voters, but I think that even more voters are turned off by all of the candidates, so it will not surprise me that with their protest against "all of the above," they stay at home and Obama brings home the "W" (w=win, not Bush) in the general election. Conservatives throw their hands up with McCain, and the only way he would win their support would be to pull in a true conservative (fiscally speaking) for the VP. If he did this, it is likely that he would also pull many Independents (formally of the GOP). I think that many people confuse Independents with middle-of the road people, but I tend to believe they are people who feel abandoned by their Party.

There is another potential reason why she asked for money up front last night. Recently, but too late, her webmaster redesigned her website (https://contribute.hillaryclinton.com/donate-c.html?sc=a725) so that the first thing to pop up was a solicitation for money. Overnight, their income from the website shot up dramatically. If you type in www.HillaryClinton.com, you are automatically redirected to the contribution page, and have to hit a "go to" button to get to her "real" info page, and even on that page, the top thing is a "contribute" button. Makes sense to me. You would think that those little things would be thought out long in advance.

No problem, but I cannot believe it took Hillary Clinton to show you about fundraising and poliTRICKS. Since Obama seems to have more campaign money, you might want to take some notes from his site, too. His buttons to the main page are silent, hoping that you will click on the donate button when you cannot determine how to see the other parts of the site.
Punzy, Sean Hannity is running out of talk material, today. He sounds desperate, trying to keep Hillary in the race. I think that is a sign that it is over for her.

From Hillary's response to the Press, today, it sounds as though if she doesn't get the answer from the Democratic National Convention Bi-Laws Committee at the end of the month, when they make a ruling on MI and FL, she will take it to the Credentials Committee, and see what they say. She will fight a hard race just like Eight Belles, and in the end go down (politically) after she loses to Big Brown.

Actually, the first shirt I got was great. It was the second, the one out of New Orleans, that was crapola. It was sourced from N.O., which is in the recovery zone and contracted for that reason when the textile union shops couldn't fill all of the orders. It was printed in the US, but the shirt is probably Chinese.
As for the precisely -- yes, it was sarcasm. Like Obama said, the pins are more often used not as a display of patriotism, but a substitute for it. The people wearing the flag pins are the ones who sign lopsided trade deals with China, support CAFTA, and send the manufacturing of American flag pins overseas, where they are made in abhorrent conditions by sweatshop workers. Increasingly, American workers are being forced to compete with those sweatshop workers for the right to make flag pins, flags, sheets, towels, shirts. When Americans compete with sweatshop workers, their jobs go overseas or they accept concessions and end up without health insurance, retirement plans, or even living wages. The people that wear the flag pins from China aren't raising the standard of living in the rest of the world, they're bringing the standard of living down in the US for most Americans. Most Americans aren't professionals, not every person can work in the service sector in a functional economy.
The flag pin wearers threw the American worker under the bus, but wear flag pins and point out to those workers that the other guy doesn't because he doesn't care about America. I'd prefer someone with patriotism in her heart than a symbol of it on her chest...but I guess that's just me.

IBD,
The way I see this is - Why does not wearing a flag pin make you unpatriotic?
It's things like this that seem absurd to me. I don't hold my hand over my heart when the national anthem is sung but I stand with hands together, singing and exhibit the respect deserved. I've have never felt I was being unpatriotic. And I don't wear, or own, a flag pin. If I did it would likely be made in China. :idontno:
I think the emphasis on these sort of "patriotic" things are simply attempts to try to smear a candidate. And with certain groups of people it may work. It sorta falls in there with the attempts to paint people as unpatriotic if they don't agree with the administration on various things. The old you're either "with us or against us" propaganda. Actually, the thing that bothers me most about the flag pin issue is the elitism -- the assumption that so many Americans, enough people to make a difference in an election, are too dumb to comprehend real issues and will thus be swayed by such trivial things.

I agree to a degree. One could make the argument that if a man of the robe is not wearing a cross, he isn't really religious. I think some people think similarly about politicians regarding flag pins, especially ones running for high office.

My patriotism is not defined by a flag pin anymore than my relationship with God is defined by a cross pendant. Finding those things on other people have seldom made me believe they were patriotic or religious.
How silly! Why must a candidate have to wear something to "prove" patriotism??
I totally agree that you don't have to wear a flag pin to "prove patriotism" but if you are truly patriotic and want to wear a flag pin than why not? I'm married to someone who loves to wear a flag pin at times because he truly feels patriotic. It's important to him and that is what counts. By the way, he is not running for anything and if he ever does please shoot me! Maybe he likes to wear it because of all those years that he served in the military and just really believes in our country (even though he has had to hear me complain daily about our country's leadership for the last seven years). He also believes in Pittsburgh and wears buttons for that and oh yeah, don't even try to take his SoWal shirt away from him.
Soooo IMO choosing not to wear a flag pin doesn't prove you are not patriotic and choosing to wear one doesn't mean false patriotism. The only important thing is what it means to you.

.This is how it should be! No one should be telling someone else that they should or should not.
There was this guy that after 9/11 committed to wearing a flag tie daily. At some point (I'm pretty sure he made it more than a year) he finally said he just couldn't do it anymore. I think it got dingy and ratty looking. And it certainly wouldn't have given him the same good feeling as I'm sure Mr. Gypsea has when he chooses to wear it when he gets the urge.

I consider myself fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Have always been registered as Independent. I have to admit that I would have a hard time listening to Limbaugh for more than a few minutes at a time though.
Appreciate your thoughts on here but please don't ask me wear a flag pin or pledge the Texas flag (like my daughter is asked to do in school). .;-)
.according to some test that was on the internet I am a centralist?? hell, I dont know, something in the middle... I don't get to listen to Limbaugh often and I don't agree with everything he says. Some of the things he says just makes me laugh. I realize that many people (not saying you) hate him but have never listened to him. Just like many people did not read/listen to the Rev. Wright speech but still judged him.

Frankly, I feel the wearing of the flag pin by politicians, R or D, is an insult to the military members who have our flag stitched into their uniforms...Members of Congress -- especially those who are running -- wear the flag and refuse to support our troops with the equipment they need; with the care they need when they return; and most of all they continue to support a Commander in Chief who has a flawed war/defense policy.
They are all hiding behind the flag pin while our men in women in uniform are putting their flags and their lives in harm's way.
It disgusts me. At least Obama has been against this horrible war from the beginning, and he is willing to put his principles where his speeches are...

flag pins ruin a good suit. They need to make magnetic ones for those politicians who don't feel American enough, that they need to wear a flag to show that they are patriotic. Punzy nailed it yesterday regarding this issue.

It's perfectably acceptable to press a flag (http://www.usa-flag-site.org/forum/wrinkled-flag-1689.html). Don't ask how I already knew this, but here is proof positive. Such a large one, I would have ironed it folded, then unfolded gradually, so as no touch the floor. I would have used a towel over it so as not to burn it isnce it's probably polyester, and ironed at low setting.
Steaming works too though.

I typically employ the "shake it really hard" or in extreme cases "put it in the dryer w/ a damp washcloth" methods instead of ironing.
I wrinkle clothes even more quickly than I spill on them, so ironing is a waste of time IMO!

Hey, Earthsavers -- you're all busted! Wrinkles are a product of a dryer. If you are hanging your wash on a clothesline, especially with our hard water, you get crisp, unwrinkled clothes.
My HE4 was featured in Dwell as the ultimate green (or in this case orange) appliance. I use Seventh Generation lavender = blue eucalyptus detergent and fabric softener...so I'm doing my part to save the Earth despite my iron and/or steamer. 1300 rpms are whirling away at this very moment, guaranteeing about 12 minutes total in the dryer, tops.

A joke for Smiley J...
Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John Mc Cain > were flying to a debate.
Barack looked at Hillary, Chuckled and said, "You know I could throw a
$1,000 bill out of the window right now and make somebody very happy."
Hillary shrugged her shoulders and replied, "I could throw ten $100 bills out of the window and make ten people very happy."
John added, "That being the case, I could throw one hundred $10 bills out of
the window and make a hundred people very happy."
Hearing their exchange, the pilot rolled his eyes and said to his copilot,
"Such big-shots back there. I could throw all three of them out of the
window and make 156 million people very happy."
I'm voting for the pilot .
