Was this a yield/left turn issue or are people just having mental lapses and yapping on their phones? :idontno:

Left turn/yield issue. We stopped to check on one of the drivers. No one hurt. People still don't seem to understand that the cars going straight across have the right-of-way.:idontno:

Most of the ones I have almost hit while going straight across were talking on the phone while failing to yield to my right of way.:pissed:My son was aafraid I was going to set off my airbag one day because I hit the horn so hard.

Crossing 98 going south on 283 is like playing chicken... gun it, stutter, gun it, stutter...
It's amazing to me the numbers of self absorbed people who either don't understand left hand turn right of ways... or just think they're too important to abide by the law.
Still... it's better than it was before the light was installed.

I would love to see a deputy sit there for one day and pull over and ticket every one of the idiots that fails to yield R.O.W. Maybe it would have an impact THAT way rather than 2 (or 3) cars being impacted.
EDIT... son just reminded me of the one the other day that I had to blow the horn at that turned in front of me, cell phone to ear and then took other hand off the wheel (while making a left turn!)to flip me off for blowing my horn at him.

I think they need to make those lights have a green turn arrow as it's easy to forget, especially when people are unfamiliar with the area. I've had a couple "oops" moments forgetting that there are folks going straight.

YES very scary!!
Motivates the desire to attach a GIANT steel blinking Yield-On-Left Shield to the front of my truck!
I have never seen such poor driving habits as I have since moving down here. I don't know if it people from many other states on vacation or what, but it is scary. I see them nearly every day as I try to cross 98 from 393. :bang:

It's a good idea, since most people probably couldn't pass a physical driving test if they had too. I really believe that the physical driving test needs to be taken about every 4 years, with an annual written test. It is obvious to me that people need to learn the rules of the road.

I think we definitely need more frequent driving tests - not just to refresh people on the proper way to drive and the rules, but to get people who shouldn't be driving due to age off the road.
Also think cell phones in cars need some SEVERE controls. It used to be when I saw erratic driving they were drunk or kids goofing around - now they are almost always on the phone!

Ain't that the truth. When I see someone driving too slow or too fast or just plain weird, it's because they're preoccupied with their cell phone conversation. :bang:
We no longer take bike rides that involve crossing over 98 because I've read too many posts exactly like this one. Why volunteer to be road kill?

Sorry, Mermaid, I really didn't mean to make you crash your bikes when I tooted the horn at you and Merman that day as you were trying to cross hwy 98. I really thought that car was going to get you.

Sample driving test - I got 17/20.
1 wrong for something I am currently in violation of, 1 wrong because I don't know much about DUIs (besides don't do it), and 1 brain fart!

I nearly did crash into that car, didn't I? Shows how quickly things can happen when you're momentarily distracted. You know you have full permission from now on in to ignore me if you see me on my bike. I'll understand.
I didn't know how long you'd lose your license for not submitting to a breathalizer test and didn't know how many days you have to update your drivers license. Which reminds me....I gotta update my drivers license.

You got 18 correct out of a possible 20. You scored a 90%.
I missed the same ones you did ASH. I thought you had 30 days for some odd reason and I don't know much about DUI laws.
It amazes me every single time I am at the beach at the people who's brains must also be on vacation. I almost rear ended a car on 30-a in Seagrove Sunday that just decided to pull right out in front of me and one who all of a sudden slammed on the brakes and decided to turn. :idontno:
Are there laws in some states about passing tests after a certain age?

17 out of 20. Missed failure to take brethalizer ( Ithought 6 mo suspension), the double curve thing and I though driving under 40 mph on a highway was the correct answer. Now I know, thanks!
Freeways sometimes will post a minimum speed limit. I though about that same 40mph and then thought, wait, that wouldn't work with 98 as there are 35mph limits in Destin. That's when I chose the one about same speeds as a better answer and got it right.

yep. That doesn't seem like a lot of time when you are dealing with a move. Of course, I let my DL expire so it was past due by almost 3 years. I had to take the written and the driving test over. The kid that gave me the driving test was exactly half my age!!!! He wasn't even paying attention to what I was doing.
Then when I wanted to write a check for the fee, they wouldn't take it because I didn't have a valid DL....it hadn't come out of the machine yet. I had to pay cash! :floor:

My sweet friend (and Brody's favorite babysitter--the one he calls "HOT") was the one in the accident. The girl that hit her had NO valid driver's license .
My friend who is a struggling college student was not at fault in the accident (she was going straight, the other person was turning) and her car was totaled.

hey its me!! I'm the one who got hit the other day haha. Yeah...so somehow jimmys in Freeport gave me a damage estimate of $4800 which technically would make my car totalled because I think its worth right around that much. Oh well, i guess they think the thing is worth more. But I'm glad because they would have written me some crappy check that would have had me making payments on something all of a sudden when my car is all paid for. Anywho...went by there the other day and they've already started working on it. The girl who hit me's insurance took full liability. Thank god!! I guess that's what I pay all that money for every month.

Wow glad to hear you are ok but am kinda surprised that her insurance is paying if she didnt have a valid license. Was it a case of she just didnt have her license with her or something?
