I was just on 30A and saw someone water skiing in Grayton (Western Lake?) Is that allowed?:idontno:

I guess that since motors are allowed, you COULD waterski, but it's such a strange idea/place for it.

Nothing like adding wake to an area full of amateur paddlers and beautiful and delicate nature.

Wait til you see the guy doing it in Eastern Lake, he just goes in circles.

Waterskiing is not prohibited in Western Lake. Just don't hit your head when you fall. I believe the FL Law states that boats are to remain at no wake within 300 ft from shore any shore, which would probably make it nearly impossible to water ski legally, on Western Lake, but I see one open-bow bass boat pulling a tube and a water skier all the time.

I thought all coastal lakes are limited to 10 hp motors. The only coastal lake you can legally waterski in is Lake Powell.

There are several that you can legally ski on. Would have to check in with the Coastal Dune Lake Advisory Board. With increased population, though, and consideration to reducing wake and erosion, it would be nice if boaters would self regulate a bit more. A few of the lakes have boats and motors large enough to be sea worthy. A bit much, IMO, and not good for the lakes. With the increased number of boats on a few of the lakes, it is quite dangerous a few weeks of the year.

When I said I skiied all of my life...I really meant I haven't skiied in Western Lake in 30 years.

water skiing in a coastal lake.,??? its almost like they have been doing it all thier lives, since visiting grandma and gramps beach cottage back before power was even south of the bay ., even tho the next cat three storm is gonna send a surge over 30-a, i worry about the vegetation and the effects of the wake from such behavior.,... i really think this needs to stop,.i am new to the area and i have a lot of time on my hands, and i am a trust-fund baby, so i can spend my time on things like this,..if anyone wants to join me ,let me know,..also, at the beach today i noticed a family,...(i think they were tourists) eating peanuts and they didnt pick up some of the shells,...can we make a law for that? hmm, well lets all pitch in and make this a better place, i may only have a few years here, thinking about moving to the amish country, gotta address the cows and the gasses they extract, thanks for the support...

You may as well go ahead and relocate those two gators, because they are already trouble, coming up to people to be fed. When they get to be 7ft+, there will be missing dogs, and maybe small children. It sucks that people feed the gators, because the end result is death to the gators.

Exactly! We don't feed them....not anymore. Not in 30 years.

This may be taking a turn, but I saw Lake Powell mentioned earlier in the thread, and inquiring minds want to know.

Why did Phillips Inlet get renamed Lake Powell?

It didn't. Philips Inlet is the inlet. Lake Powell is the lake. They are two different things. The inlet is the area the bridge goes over and is the body of water which flows in from and out to the gulf. The lake is the large body of water farther inland.

Let me see if I can tie this comment in to this thread. Yes, I did ski on a Coastal Dune Lake when I was about 5, but I don't anymore. There were other native and Spanish names for Coastal Dune Lake Powell, but the earliest map I can find this morning with it listed as "Lake Powell" is the "1886 Williams and Bushnell New Map of Florida." This area had left Walton County in 1825 and was in Washington County at this time.

About two weeks ago, they pulled a gator out of Western Lake, reported to have been about 8 ft in length and eating everything in site, including the two smaller aggressive gators which would beg for food like dogs.

SJ:

We saw a bigger one and the FWC has sent their man back to hunt the big one down and "relocate" it. As you noted, when they've been fed they lose their fear of humans and can pose a danger.

Hopefully we'll get a photo of him as he's led away in 'cuffs.

Oooh I heard about this one.

See Smiley J? I told you there were big gators in that lake!!

Interesting. Thanks for that info. I had seen the 8 footer a couple of times, and have posted pics of him on SoWal, several months ago. Also posted pics of the two smaller gators. JDarg was describing the one big one which it sounds like the one you are describing.

I've heard of one which likes to lay out on a particular lawn along the Bay, and maybe I'll catch him getting some sun, one day soon. Gators are so fascinating to me. I doubt I'll be able to get a good pic, unless people have been feeding the gator, making it very approachable.

Lock up the chilrens!

Yes, yes, yes, you did tell me. I just hope it isn't record breaking size like you describe. A 24 ft long gator would be HUGE, indeed, and likely older than any human walking the planet.

How's Nessie BTW? ;-)

You will have to ask Kate. It is her dream in life to see a real waterhorse.

Well, hopefully they are not being flushed into Western Lake. Some of the long-timers tell me that there are still a number of septic systems around the lake and, well, you know...

Maybe Lysergic Acid Diethylamide is seeping into the water and only the imagination of the viewer of the wildlife, is growing larger.

Whatever happened to Nessy that was in Oyster Lake? Didn't they determine it was someone's pet python? Last I heard was that a FWC guy was wearing hip waders and poking in the grass behind a local realty office looking for it.
