Walking through Seaside yesterday, I noticed a couple of things.
1) there is recently-placed Airstream trailer parked in the former location of the little sushi place. Anyone know what is going in there?

2) all of the grass at the amphitheater looks dead. What happened? :idontno:

1) New smoothie shop going in the Airstream (and raw foods, maybe??) Email me if you want to know WHO is opening it.

2) Have been to Seaside several times in the last 2 weeks and it's been incredibly busy every time I've gone. Dead grass is probably from all the foot traffic - this seemed to be a very busy Spring Break in Seaside

Is the old Airstream by the post office still there ?

Frostbites?

That is strange about the grass...do you remember it happening before?

Oh, that must be Jen's Juice Bar. That's great! I knew she was looking to be on 30A, but didn't know she got the premO location.

I've seen a lot of activities on the Seaside grass and usually it shows very little if any damage. My guess would be ....1) Irrigation is broken. 2) concerving water......3) or killing it intentionally for another purpose.

Seaside is usually on top of aesthetics, so I bet there is a method to the madness.

Yep it's Jen's Juice bar; no name yet but opening soon! Can't wait! Congrats to Jen in advance!

They could also be in the time between when the overseeded winter grass is dying off, and the stuff that comes up for the summer is still a bit dormant.

seagrovegirl
03-31-2008, 12:46 PM
Might be dormant...but IMO probably not. Local grass is green, my yard is green (but covered in oak leaves) and I don't have irrigation.

Raw and Juicy will be open soon! I'm sure Jen will make an official post very soon and give you the details.

I would think the dead grass could be due to massive flooding in February during the days of the monsoon rain. Basically that area was under water for days. Then as Jill said you had massive foot traffic on it during Easter week.

Also please everyone if driving through Seaside be careful of bikers.

My daughter's manager was hit by a car last week and has a fractured leg. Prayers for a complete recovery, she is young with 2 kids.

Yikes...thats terrible! I hope that bikers are careful of cars too...... not saying your daughters manager did this, but people on vacation think they have the right-of-way in Seaside. They think it is yuppie Disney and walk in the street and get pizzed that you almost hit them. I had a man push a baby stroller with a baby in it, right out in front of me and I almost hit it! And boy...was he mad AT ME!!!! Not even at a crosswalk or the 3 way stop. Sorry, I had to vent this.....Seaside has an obligation to it's guests to forwarn people about the COUNTY ROAD that runs thru Seaside. I stop for people most of the time and am courteous.....but it is extremely dangerous and crowded and an absolute free for all at times.

how so? most towns/resorts have a main street running through them. and they pretty much have know about it as it's the only way in or out.

This has been going on for ages. I can't believe any responsible parent would use a baby stroller as a traffic device. :bang:

NoHall

Doesn't that stop the seeding?

Warm season grasses (like bermuda) only seed when they're really tall. You don't want them to get really tall--they will develop serious fungus problems. You also don't overseed bermuda like you do with fescue--it spreads underground.

After bermuda (and other warm season grasses) break dormancy and start to grow, the lower part of the blades brown out. Only the top part is green. You can't cut the grass lower than the green part later in the season, so if you let it get tall you have to leave it tall. So early in the season as it is first breaking dormancy, it's best to scalp the grass--cut it really low to cut all the brown off the top so that it literally has room to grow.

Slow down and smell the tourists. Enjoy the buzz. Seaside should be approached the same as a walmart parking lot - with extreme caution and wonderment. Everyone has the right of way before you. And that is OK. Speed limit = 2.

Speed in Seaside?? Are you kidding me???:idontno:

I have resigned myself to the mind racking idiosyncricies (sp) of driving thru Seaside. My nerves are now of steel. I do not honk, tail gate or yell. Except for March 21st......I had my fill of absolute, non courteous, brain vacuum, inconsiderate idiots.......especially the silver Mercedes with Ga tag, that pulled out in front of me (and I have a BIG suv) and went 10 mph all the way thru watercolor. My husband had never sen this side of me....but I HAD IT!!!!!:bang:

Raw and Juicy -- Seaside -- Coming Soon!

...maybe as early as tomorrow! They have a target date of opening tomorrow, Friday, April 4. Not only is it cool, I've sampled plenty of product and it is mmm, mmm, good. You must check out this green bicycle up close. Jen has it attached to a blender, so you sit on the bike and pedal to operate the blender. I hear that will be for any customer who is ..., well, let's just say any customer who is not having their best day, if you know what I mean. :funn:Seriously, the bike is runs a blender. Even if good stuff isn't your cup of tea, go by and say hi. Jen is one of those super-cool people who make this town what it is.

I had one of these of Tuesday, just before 1pm. I was at the 4-way at 283 & 30-A, headed towards Seaside. A white Tahoe with Mississippi tages decided to turn left onto 30-A right behind the car in front of him/her, as I was proceeding across the intersection!:bang: Then the Tahoe tailgated a service truck until it pulled over just before the park. At that point, the Tahoe sped up past 60mph across Western Lake & into WaterColor, not slowing until the stopsign. Part of me wanted to follow them & yell slow the f down & learn what traffic laws mean!!!! (Especially cause the kids weren't in the car with me at the time.) Whoever was driving was a toolbag all the way through Seagrove.:bang:

Most of the time I can handle bad driving, but this took the cake on that one because it had DISRESPECT for other people's lives written all over it.
