Yes, really! :D When I first heard of this last fall, I had a flashback to Chevy Chase’s rant in Christmas Vacation when he found out his Christmas bonus was a membership in the Jelly of the Month Club (when he was expecting big $$$ to build a swimming pool)! It was being discussed on one of the network morning shows and got generally good reviews. So I checked around the web and it seemed most members were happy with the product. We like bacon, so I gave the family a membership as a Christmas present.

Each month we receive a special artisanal bacon (1 lb. package). In January, it was Jim Oliver’s Hickory Smoked Bacon. Meaty and very good. February was New York Hudson Valley Country Bacon. This bacon was very thick almost like a country ham slice. It had great flavor. Today we received Burger Farms Pepper Bacon. It looks beautiful in the package and we look forward to trying it this weekend.

Bacon is shipped USPS in an insulated box with an ice pack. It is also accompanied by a little write-up about that particular bacon and a recipe. Its not cheap by any means, consider it sort of like buying an artisanal cheese at Whole Foods for $19.99 per pound:yikes:.

But for us it’s a small monthly indulgence. Its also fun to look forward to the next month’s selection and then anticipate the great smell of the bacon cooking Sunday morning. Bon Appetit!!

Next time your down get the prepackaged filet mignon wrapped in bacon from Publix, it's a filet, but it is permeated with bacon flavor. It's basically a bacon filet.

Just think of all the recipes with bacon!

Get yourself The Bacon Cookbook by James Villas (Wiley, 2007). More than 150 artery clogging recipes! Nice pictures too.
