GRAYTON BEACH -- South Walton firefighters responded to Pandora's Restaurant just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday after reports of smoke at the back deck.

Crews at the scene were working to remove boards to find the origin of the flames. The cause of the fire was under investigation Tuesday night.

Firefighters at South Walton's Seagrove Beach station declined to provide information and Station 3 was unreachable.

Fire at Pandora's Restaurant

On Tuesday night, a fire broke out on the back deck of Pandora's restaurant in Grayton Beach.
At 7:21 p.m. South Walton Fire District responded to a call from a witness who saw smoke coming from the back half of the building. Crews at the scene removed boards to extinguish the fire that was reportedly started from a pile of cigarette butts. According to SWFD Chief Corey Harned, there was no structural damage and the flames were quickly extinguised.

When I was there the other night, I noticed that the gas heaters were about one foot below the thatched roof. I couldn't help but wonder how that thatching had not dried out so much that it just ignited. I think it is a miracle that it hasn't caught fire yet.

Scooterbug..I agree, but the decking is fairly tight and can't see how butts could get down under the deck, even if you dropped a lit cig, it wouldn't fall between the cracks. Just wondering:idontno:

Lol..I wound up down there shortly after posting and then went into Destin. I had my sandwich served to me in the back bathroom :lol:. I looked around for a party fitting your description as I left but I would have been way early. Hope you enjoyed it.

I got there about 1:10 or so. My party was already seated. There was a man there sitting by himself and I wondered if that was you. I guess it wasn't. Sorry to have missed you. You don't have anything to be afraid of........I wasn't ambushed...so you shouldn't be either.
