Presidential candidate Barack Obama’s visit to the Florida Panhandle has been removed from the schedule on his Web site.

In an e-mail to a reporter for the Panama City News Herald, a representative of the Barack campaign wrote that "this event was created by a grassroots support and has no relationship with the campaign. Apologies for the confusion this may have caused."

Obama had been listed as speaking on March 20 at a convention for Baptist ministers in Panama City Beach. That notice was removed sometime on Tuesday.

The conference planner, K. Tyrone Turner, sent an e-mail late Tuesday that the appearance had been removed from the site. He continued that he believed the local Democratic Party would be seeking a larger venue for an appearance by Obama.

In the day or so that the notice appeared on the Obama campaign site, more than 1,000 people had already signed up to attend. The convention had room for only a limited number of visitors, in addition to the ministers and others who were planning to attend the week-long conference.

thanks for the info aleo! I hope obama makes it to the panhandle at some point. if so, I'll be ready with my t-shirt and button. I wore both around seaside this morning and had so many wonderful folks (mostly obama supporters) come up to me and strike up a conversation about their hopes and excitement on this election. so refreshing!

Just curious... why would you favor Barack Obama over other candidates? If you're a voting Democrat, is it because you oppose Hillary, is it due to his position on issues, or what?

his position and experience in education (proactive in early childhood, reform) hooked me (education is the first thing I consider when learning about candidates. without education we have no hope and no future, without it america will lose its place in the world, without it we will not have the intellectual resources we need to study and preserve our environment, and war will continue to be a necessity out of our own ignorance. it all starts with education. parents must be the child's first educator. our schools are the second most important aspect of a child's education. they are being run by people who are elected in a partisan race to oversee and run the schools - so think about how are schools have become a political government entity, run like the government is run on county, state and national levels. no wonder they suck so bad.

I have read his book, extensive website and listened to his speeches and watched him closely in debates. He makes the most sense to me on every issue. even though he does closely match hillary in a lot of issues, his delivery and feeling behind it is just more like what we should all try to be like in this life - compassionate, hopeful, honest, and yes, kind.

obama says we have to do the work. hillary says just leave it to her to do the job. big difference in approach. no thanks on the latter. besides, Hillary is old news in this country. we've seen enough of her and Bill. I like them, but enough already. would like to vote for her because of the woman factor. but that is just not a good enough reason for me. let's not vote with our reproductive organs, as a wise person on this board once said.

other candidates can only speak to his "empty rhetoric". can they do no better if they want to use negative spin? he has offered as much detail on each campaign issue as any, if not more. and top of that, he offers a new attitude. with him, it isn't us against them. its what is best for the country. he is not divisive. he recognizes that every person/party has something to offer. and he tells us the truth about how this change he proposes must be important enough for us to not only ask for it, care for it, but do the work to make it happen. in other words, you have to get off your apathetic butt. he speaks to me. and that is enough. period.

how many voters read a book written by their candidate so they can have an inside look and a much better understanding of his/or experiences, policies, views, beliefs, goals, etc?

we usually read this article or watch that 10 second news brief. those are all coming from someone else's perspective. reports have been crafted to deliver a certain message to the voter. as a result, the voter who waits to be fed information by the media on the candidates, well that voter has not been properly informed, overall. even watching the candidates themselves deliver speeches can be misleading, imo, because they have to speak to certain issues that we the people have asked them to do - we do not see the whole candidate - just the political side - just the side trying like heck to get elected. look at mccain - bless his heart - he absolutely must say and do whatever it takes to appease the conservative republican base. we aren't seeing the real man these days, imo.

sorry for the long answer. that's my view and I'm sticking to it.

Obama Gives Florida the Cold Shoulder
No ‘Change’ Here

Tallahassee–Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer released the following statement today regarding Senator Barack Obama’s decision to cancel his appearance at the Progressive M. & E. Baptist State Convention in Panama City Beach, Florida. More than 1,000 people had already signed up for the event, hoping against hope that Obama would actually show any regard for their support.

“Senator Obama’s choice to cancel his appearance once again illustrates his lack of interest in addressing the concerns of Florida voters. First he signed a pledge refusing to campaign here, and now he is adding insult to injury by continuing to keep Florida voters at arms’ length.

“More than 1.7 million Democrats came out to vote in the Florida Primary despite the fact that they will have no representation at the Democrat Party’s brokered convention, where only party big wigs will have a voice. If Barack Obama is really about “change” like he claims, perhaps he should start by changing his policy of ignoring Florida voters—the same voters who have the power to make or break this election for him.”

Brain only; the heart has no place in the voting booth.

From the local folks in PCB, the campaign had never agreed to this appearance; it was a grassroots situation that "jumped the gun" on the schedule...:idontno:

Thank you for sharing your opinion. Mine differs. I feel the heart does play an important part.

This area being named 'Victory Road' by the the Republicans and the only real major money being raised going to the Clintons......that would be reason enough for me to redouble my efforts elsewhere.
