WaltonGOP, I just noticed your new signature, "United on the path to victory in 2008!" Is it true that the GOP feels that McCain winning is truly a victory? I thought most conservatives thought that he is too liberal. Is the "lesser of two evils" really a victory? It seems like that would fall into the category of a loss. :idontno:

Oh boy. This is really going to rile some folks up. When Jim Greer was elected to head the party two years ago, it became apparent the guy is into themes. The first one was "Building a Foundation for Victory!" And several things were done by both him and CC to increase the size of the tent. Now we come to 2008 when we have more than one, well qualified candidate for President. Some a bit more liberal than others. The latest theme is meant to drive home the message that no matter who ends up being the nominee, which will be McCain, that the Republican faithful will unite behind that single person to keep control of the White House. This winning at any costs is starting to even annoy me just a bit. I think we are losing sight of what we need to be doing, and that is planning for the future of this country.

The Republican faithful? Sounds like a cult to me. ;-)
I loved the last sentence of that post, WGOP.
I think both parties are going through or are about to go out in a blaze of glory so that something better can be reborn from their ashes. For years, there has been nothing done to address real problems that affect real people, and both parties have blamed it on the other -- and gridlock. The truth is, both parties have been dominated by old machines, big donors, and lobbyists for years. Nothing gets done because the politicians are too busy legislating on behalf of their cronies.
The internet, the information and the access to money from small donors it provides, will fundamentally reshape politics in this country.

Punzy, I think you are spot on with your analysis. Tootsie mentions that the phrase sounds like an Obama tagline. Perhaps it should be the tagline for America. Put aside all of this partisan poliTRICKS, and move forward to doing that which is right for the Country.

They did not have Obama's latest available at the library but I did get the CD and am listening to it now. He brings up some interesting points.

I have absolutely no problem with the country adopting the Republican Party of Florida tagline and moving forward to do what is RIGHT for the country. That is all I keep trying to do.

Here is a perfect example of what I meant by the old party structure falling apart. When Bill Clinton emerged as a viable Presidential candidate in 1991, he did so with the backing of the DLC -- a group that advocated triangulating (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triangulation_(politics) and developed the concept of a war room to "fight attacks" which helped them to advance a message and dominate the news cycle.
Of course, now we don't just have a handful of new outlets dispensing one news story a day. We don't have 24 hours of Hillary brandishing some mailers and decrying the attacks on her before Obama can respond. Now, he can immediately respond. When someone posts about her tirade on a political site, I can immediately post a link to my posts from South Carolina describing her mailers, and some creative random blogger can throw this together.....

This old school Carville/Rove stuff, it gets less and less effective every day, with every incremental advancement in technology. Will it work one last time in 2008? Who knows? We'll find out March 4th. But if it works one last time, it will not work again in 2012 -- not for either party. Huckabee and Paul didn't have the blessings of the Republican machine, and look how far they managed to go.

she's ruining the heck out of the "woman image" as a president, imo.
she's attacking obama for running a campaign (he does compare policies in but it ain't all about her), stating "since when did democrats attach each other..." "how dare you attack my health care plan.."
who is on the attack here? and its a doozy, "I'm disappointed / I'm ashamed of you" unpresidential kind of attack as well.
I'm disappointed in hillary. I saw this all day yesterday, and it made me sad for her. You should be ashamed Hillary - for being so divisive and unprofessional!
