Foreclosure task force

Gov. Charlie Crist appointed a foreclosure task force to called the Home Ownership Promotes the Economy to address the rising rate of foreclosures statewide.
CFO Alex Sink will be on the committee, as well as Sen. Bill Posey, Rep. Franklin Sands, as well as several others yet to be appointed. The goal is to present recommendations that the Legislature might consider this session to help those who are losing their homes in the housing crisis.

I expect the U.S. Government will soon have a "Department of Hope" and appoint a "Hope Czar" before this thing is all over.

Well we now have task force HOPE. Home Ownership Promotes Economy. Maybe Obama is going to pick Crist as his running mate.

I know it sounds heartless but I think we just have to let the foreclosures happen and let the chips fall where they will. A painful lesson to be sure but we have got to move beyond this mess ASAP and I think band-aids on the problem will only prolong the misery.

Long way from "Chain Gang Charlie," huh?

Personally I have a tendency to agree with Skunky, though I do sympathize with a lot of people who have found themselves in untenable positions.

Not necessarily, but you could be a socially-liberal, fiscally-conservative Libertarian

I think that is what needs to happen also. Not trying to be heartless, but if they would leave this mess alone, it will clear itself up pretty quickly, and we could get back to business. Continuing to push this off with tax rebates, foreclosure freezes, lowering interest rates is not going to work in the long run.

But then I am not an educated economist. Where is a Holiday Inn Express when you need one?

I have been starting to wonder about this.

Maybe Republican Christ will have another fundraiser to work up a plan to ask us for our additional homestead monies back to help these poor homeowners.

The more I read about the rising foreclosures, the government bailouts and the Dot.HOPE programs, the more I think folks who find themselves in over their heads need to just mail in the keys and walk away.

I'm all for personal responsibility and living up to one's contract, but these HOPE programs are more about bailing out the banking system than anything else. The banks would rather these folks spend down their savings, kids' college funds and retirement funds and eat ramen off their granite countertops for the next 30 years than end up with another overpriced stucco-box on their balance sheet.

Dear Friends,

I am excited to report to you that today, Governor Charlie Crist announced the creation of the Florida Home Ownership Promotes the Economy (HOPE) Task Force.

As you know, economic development is a Republican cornerstone. We must make every effort to promote economic development—such as creating this task force—to keep Florida’s economy vibrant. With that in mind, Governor Crist took bold action today that will identify and explore solutions to preventing home foreclosure in Florida.

Governor Crist appointed Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp as chair of the Florida HOPE Task Force. Under the Lieutenant Governor’s leadership, the task force will a state action plan to address Florida’s foreclosure rate, assess Florida’s banking and mortgage industries, and review the current laws and regulations related to the foreclosure process. The task force will also identify and evaluate public and private financial resources and educational opportunities available to assist Florida homeowners.

I am confident that, under the leadership of Governor Crist and Lt. Governor Kottkamp, the HOPE Task Force will help revive Florida’s economy not only by reducing the number of households experiencing foreclosure, but by developing and putting into place an action plan to address Florida’s foreclosure rate.

This task force, in conjunction with Amendment 1 and continued efforts by our Republican Legislature and Governor Crist to reduce property taxes and property insurance, will go a long way towards preserving the American Dream of home ownership in our great state.

Regards,

Jim Greer

Dear Jim,

Where the hell were you and Charlie when this Florida housing free-for-all-money-grab was taking place?

Oh, yeah.... According to the St Pete Times, Oct 2006:

Donald Trump may have loads of current and future real estate, development, gambling and other interests potentially affected by the next election, but at his fourth fundraiser for Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist, the Donald insisted that had nothing to do with his strong support for Crist.

“No, not at all,” he said Friday night at a $10,000-per-person state GOP fundraiser at his Mar-A-Lago club in Palm Beach. “I don’t need anything from him, I don’t want anything from him. I think he’s a tremendous person, and I think he’ll be great for Florida, that’s it. And if he’s great for Florida, that’s good for me.”

Have Charlie give his pal THE™ Donald a jingle, I'm sure he'd be happy to head up the Foreclosure Task Force--he'll probably be in Orlando March 2nd with his Trump University Forclosure Investment Retreat http://www.trumpuniversity.com/products/product.cfm?productcode=RTRFCRHAB.

Regards,

Shel.

Ditto! People never having to face negative consequences is one of the reasons this occurred IMO! Unfortunately the lessons you learn the hard way are the ones that stick.

Personally I have a tendency to agree with Skunky, though I do sympathize with a lot of people who have found themselves in untenable positions.

I'm sympathetic too, but many of these people DID put themselves in these untenable positions with less than cautious real estate deals and financial planning. I have sympathy for people in who were in a tight financial situation and are now in a worse one, not so much for the ones who were living large outside their means and spending $ like crazy and now can't pay the piper.

Well, we know he won't be in Tampa anytime soon. Trump Tower? What Trump Tower?

I guess I can sort of understand the Hope Task Force, since if even THE™ Donald thought it was a good idea to put an ultra luxury condominum project near downtown Tampa in 2005, then why wouldn't Joe Hairdresser decide to plunk down $$$$ for the "opportunity" to buy into other, more affordable condo projects?
