FYI:
Rummell to step down at St. Joe
Peter S. Rummell, who has led the transformation of St. Joe Company from paper-maker to place maker, is stepping down as chief executive of the Jacksonville company in mid-May.
Rummell, a former Disney executive, will remain chairman and be replaced in the top executive spot by Britt Greene, St. Joe's president. The publicly traded company, which owns about 700,000 acres in Florida, continues to suffer from a weak residential real estate market. It reported 2007 earnings of $39.2-million or 53 cents a share on revenues of $377-million compared to net income of $51-million or 69 cents a share on revenues of $524.3-million a year ago.

surprise, surprise. Why the heck does it take six months for a CEO to officially publicly announce that he is out-ta-here?

First post, and the above posters are not going to like it. Perhaps the posts were all made in fun? But just to keep the record straight,
St. Joe has done an incredible job blending in with the community. Watercolor is an outstanding development, (only to be bested by Allys?), and an incredible asset to the area, ditto for WaterSound. As far as inobtrusive developments that harmonize with the area, you could not ask for better neighbors. Be thankful you have a neighbor that utilized deep pockets to recognize an area rich in natural beauty and created developments that will stand the test of time, and that compliment and add to the overall livability of the the area. I hope all appreciation a well thought-out, well developed community that has enhanced the area, not subtracted from it. Those of you who care about the stock price, or the CEO leaving, you have/are not interested in what was created for the community and have other issues. Take a stroll through the developments on a beautiful Spring day and tell me I am wrong.

:welcome: I was stoked about Castro. No bad feelings here about Watercolor or Watersound. I think commercially they were a little short sighted but overall I would give them a B plus. I am really hoping Cuba becomes a little more stable with Castro leaving. The surf is really good there and I hate to think of all those wasted waves!

I personally prefer what Mother Nature "did" with the place before JOE "created" the cartoon villages. I took a stroll through this area in the 1970s on a beautiful Spring day and I'll tell you--you are wrong.
As far a JOE's stock goes; paying $36-and-change for 1¢ of net income (and no dividend) is a bit rich for my blood.
Other than that...:welcome:

They think St. Joe has their interests, the overall community's interests, and the environment's interests at heart.
And it's unobtrusive.

I agree with what your saying in some ways but your first post came off like you were completely against any growth. Yet, you live here. I am sure at some time or another someone was upset when you built your home. BTW, I do not pay a bit of attention to any of those stupid signs placed on the beaches. They are actually quite handy when we set up a volleyball net!

I think this "private beach" issue--which started with JOE and has now spread to the gulf front SFH/condos--is going to get progressively worse going forward. If that is the "growth" of which you speak, then yes, I am completely against it.

But, in the words of Robert Davis, founder of Seaside, published on page 8 of the Seaside Times, Early Spring 2008 issue writing about the private beach signs and no trespassing attitudes:
"...because the spirit of openness which I believe is an important part of our community is in danger, and our most beautiful views--of the Gulf of Mexico as framed by our beach pavilions--have been marred. I know a community of intelligent citizens can find better solutions to its problems."
Thank you, Robert Davis. I certainly hope you are right!

Big difference between building a home and staking a claim. You can easily add to a community and have your own personal space & expression without claiming a natural resource as your exclusive property to be vigorously defended against all comers.

I think the issue is going to get progressively worse as well but I also feel that is what is going to solve the issue. That is not the "growth" of which I speak. My position on "private beaches" is and has been very clear on these boards. There is no such thing! Period! Now, back to the draw bridge theory. At some point none of us were wanted here. Why do we get to declare what growth we think is best for the area?

I don't expect you to "get it" now, but you will understand sometime down the road. Remember? I have a crystal ball ;-).

Speak for yourself, people love me so much I've got 3 sets of self declared adoptive parents! Although maybe they just felt I needed more supervison/guidance ;-).
We get to declare growth 'cuz we know better!

I've never understood why Walton County didn't follow the Growth Managment Plan passed by the Florida Legislature in the mid-80s...
Oh yeah, I guess I do understand.

Be careful with that crystal ball. They are made of glass. Too much thinking you know anything will cause it to break. I had one once.

He may be using the term, "crystal ball," generically, referring to his indestructible "Magic 8-Ball."

I never understand the Joe bashing on here and in other places as well. St. Joe could have come in and clear cut all of there holdings, erected the cheapest possible homes, sold, and hauled arse. They didn't. They HAVE set aside huge areas of land for preservation. They HAVE created jobs that did not exist in the area. They HAVE given back to the community.
SHELLY, as to your comment about the earnings. I wish I had the foresight my Uncle had when he purchased almost bankrupt Joe stock. Needless to say he hasn't worried about the economy since.

Sometimes JOE giveth, (http://seekingalpha.com/article/24566-a-stubborn-case-of-efficiency-amnesia-at-st-joe-company) other times it taketh away. (http://theroystory.blogspot.com/2007/10/st-joe-layoffs-80-of-its-staff-and.html) ;-)

Even JOE needs a good bashing regarding some things. I do feel they have done many things with the environment in mind as they are developing, even though wins for one are often losses for the other. I think this thread is more related to the stock price of JOE, rather than WaterSound and WaterColor. Gayboi, you could have bought JOE a few weeks ago and be sitting pretty good right now. Timing the market is difficult at best. Just ask the numerous people who bought it at $70+.

Very true Joe, remember the other thread that everyone laughed at it being one of the 2008 stocks to buy?
