BOSTON--Four years in the making, a groundbreaking new map of the state of the world's oceans was released today, and its message is stark: Human activity has left a mark on nearly every square kilometer of sea, severely compromising ecosystems in more than 40% of waters.

At last years legislative session, Surfrider foundation tried to get a bill passed which would ban ocean dumping by cruise ships. Due to favorite projects, and lobby pressure we were unable to get that bill beyond committee!!!!
This legislative session Surfrider will again attempt to get legislation passed that will stop the ecologically arrogant! How can anyone be against a clean ocean? ........ And yet..... they are, by complacent silence! Visit Surfrider.org, join, become an activist!

That is what gets me. Why in the world would anyone be against something like this. But you are correct, that bill had some major opposition from what I was reading. Especially from the districts where the cruise ships are ported.

In the summer of Katrina the Tampa area was full of red tide. Hurricane Rita spun it up to PCB, and then Wilma spun it over here. What Politicians do elsewhere affects us all. In the environment; You can NEVER do just one thing! Everything you do affects everything else. {The first law of ecology}

There was a "This American Life" segment called The Middle of Nowhere. One of the stories was about the trash that is hundreds of miles out in the ocean 'in the middle of nowhere' that has washed from the shores of every country. It is astounding how far are junk will travel and how little concern there is over it.
