:idontno: Thoughts? Y'all have made me look closer at the Prius....what about this one? I'm looking for another work car. I drive 26 miles one way to work each day.

I also have a car with the CDI engine....I love it. It is a big sedan that gets about 37/27 mpg. Diesel engines are reputed to get 20 to 30 percent better fuel economy and produce 20 to 30 percent less carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide than gasoline engines.

So...is this not the better way to go? Why are they not producing more cars with this clean burning diesel engine?

Unless you live in Calfornia, you have no chance of getting your hands on one of these cars. The only places to fill the tanks are located in California. The lucky few folks that will get to drive one of these babies for a modest $600 per month will basically get them through a lottery.

It will be a long while before the average Joe has a chance to drive one of these puppies--the technology is extremely expensive to the point that a hydrogen fuel cell car costs several hundred thousand to build. In addition, it will be a long time before there are fueling stations around the country. I hope they can move quickly to get the cost down to the point that these vehicles are affordable. Talk about environmentally friendly. I would buy one in a heartbeat once the technology is affordable and reliable.

Yea I read that about they would be available for a select few next year in California. You are right...where would you get hydrogen?

How come they don't put more of those CDI engines in smaller cars so you could get reeeally good mpg's? My car that I have now is the first diesel they put out since 1999. When FFF sent me the link last year when I was looking for a new car I was like "No way...I don't want to sound like a big ole truck"....I test drove it and fell in love. You can't hear the engine at all....you can barely tell any difference. I can fill up....drive to the beach from Birmingham.....247 miles door to door....drive back to Birmingham....drive back to the beach on the same tank of fuel. The same tank!

They use to say that about a computer. Maybe one day soon!

Hats off to Honda for leading the way. Where's Detroit? They're busy fighting CAFE standards being raised.
