Were any minds changed last nite ? I thought Hillary was really exposed as an indecisive disengenuous Slick Willie's Wife.
I am warming up to Joe Biden and cooling off to Chris Dodd. Richardson wants the Veep spot and Obama is smart and a future prez but needs more seasoning. I loath John Edwards and am amused by Dennis Kucinich.
My choice for President is still John McCain because of his integrity, character, experience, judgement and temperment. EVERYBODY whether dem or republican respects and admires McCain. He can bring bi-partisanship back.

Other than that, I like him.

Glad Hillary is showing her colors.

I respect McCain as a person, but he doesn't seem to have much political oomph or savvy.

What are the odds of a Obama/McCain ticket?

Zilch. He was offered something similar before. He wants the number 1 spot.

Even if it's VP or nothing? :idontno:

Kerry wanted him as his running mate in 2004, and MCain turned him down. I know McCain will be 73 and he has been a hawk on Iraq but he has been right on the surge and his mom is 95 and sharp as a tack ( GOOD GENES ). I disagree with him on the war but he has character and integrity and he works well with people. We need someone like him to restore respect in govt. He is universally respected by his peers ( even Biden praised him as qualified last nite ). I would love to see him at least for one term . He could do alot to clean up the mess in D.C.

He's a rare class act.

I'd love him as pres for a term w/ Obama as VP, then Obama as pres.

Same old story - McCain's got too much integrity and brains to be a good politrickian, so we'll end up with a &($#( like Hilary. :(

Everything you said is right--and still he is the best person for the job. Unfortunately, his party would never nominate him--not that they have anyone else that is better qualified.

I agree about Rudy being very angry. He is also pigheaded. But if Hillary is the Dem nominee and McCain runs as an independent, than that guarantees Hillary as the next prez, no matter who the Republican nominee is..... I don't think McCain would run as an independent with that scenario.

McCain always had my respect even though his voting record has been mostly in contrast to my positions. He does have a record of working across the aisle which I value. When he ran in 2000 he was a candidate with integrity, character, experience, judgment and temperament. Just as you have stated. However he has since lost lost his integrity with me by selling out to W and then lost it again when he sold out to the Religious right. In 2000 he had stood his ground even when slandered by Bush in SC.

I still have a great deal of respect for the man, but I do not believe he is the candidate of character that he was in 2000.

I am still wondering what ever happened to the fiscal conservatives in the republican party. I am seeing more fiscal conservatism from the democrats. I am starting to associate the republican party as the "cut, borrow, spend and borrow some more and let our grandkids worry about paying it off" party.

I understand what you are saying about McCain in 2000 vs 2008. But he needs to get the nomination before he gets to win the office. Unfortunately pandering is part of the game. But .... he has a 30+ year record and an outstanding history of service to our country. He is a genuine American hero who is the most qualified person to be President. I have met him personally several times and he is as gracious and unpretentious as anyone I have ever known. Running for public office, let alone the Presidency, is tough and grueling. I really trust this guy and think he is the best America has to offer.

That is part of the problem. I do not think that McCain had ever been known as a panderer. He stood by his convictions win, loose or draw. That was one of the reasons for him being a hero in my mind. I am cautious of the change.

My preference is for the country to be in the centrist region socially and conservative fiscally.

To change topics slightly-
What do you think it will take to get the Republican Party back to the party of the fiscal conservative? They gained their recent power by blurring the definition of fiscal conservancy with that of religious conservancy. In reality they have failed to deliver either.

Sounds like a libertarian to me, not a republican or democrat ;-). FYI, that is where I am too!

As far as becoming fiscally conservative, I don't see it happening too soon. One of the bigger issues being the promises to special interests just to get elected. They chose the social conservatives as their special interest of choice in 04, and like you said many didn't think they delivered as much as the social conservatives wanted. Therefore, they are going to have to bring some others (read "interests") into the fold this time that will probably want spending gifts. It will be interesting to watch as our nation as a whole appears to be leaning more and more to the entitlement mode, and that will cost money too. I guess my point is :idontno:

I second Goofer's nomination of Mcain's mother. Who do we talk to to get the bumper stickers made?
