That makes quilts? :idontno:

I have ALOT of vintage fabric that were remnants from my grandmothers dress making. I would LOVE to have a quilt made out of the pieces of fabric. Does anyone know of someone who hand stiches quilts??? OR are all of them machine made now??:idontno:

Any help would be great.....

Hey dear:wave:
I have an aunt and cousin that quilt BEAUTIFULLY. They are so much more talented than my side of the fam. My aunt actually goes to a quilting group at a church every week and about 10 ladies quilt til they finish one. I would be happy to ask her if they could do yours. You'll probably find someone closer, but lemme know if you want me to ask.

Both of my grandmothers taught me to quilt, and both called down terrible curses on my head if I ever used a sewing machine for quilting.

(It just occurred to me that a sewing machine is the one machine that I truly cannot operate, despite numerous attempts at it. Chainsaws, drills, commercial-sized copiers, small engines, large engines, TiVo, nuclear submarines--I'm cool with all of those. But I can't think of a single time I've ever attempted to run a sewing machine without severe anger and anxiety issues.)

Quilting really is the easiest thing in the world, and there are a thousand good books (and even magazines) that can tell you how to do it. The hardest part, to me, is deciding on the best pattern/configuration for the colors you have on hand.

Unfortunately, I'm so behind on my quilting that it's not even funny. I've yet to start on the one I promised for Hop's 4-year-old baby, who will require a king-sized baby quilt by the time I get it finished.

I will ask them before I come to SoWal. If they're up for it, I will get the fabric when I'm there. Is your heart set on hand stitching? Machine would be much faster, I know, and probably cheaper. They can do some pretty fancy stuff on their machines. I'll let you know what they say.

What did you find out?

I'm a quilter but....very slow... I belong to a Guild and could find someone to do the quilt for you if...you wanted it handquilted. What price are you willing to pay for handquilting, what pattern do you want used, what size do you want the quilt to be, what time period... meaning how long are you willing to wait for the quilt?

Thanks, I am not sure what price as I dont know what they go for. I have not looked into it. I figured a quilter would give me the prices since it is their area of expertise. Pattern? dont know time? I have time- that is relative anyway.

I like the look of handquilting but I dont know the price- I am sure one with the machine is not as expensive.

There was a local quilter featured in the Walton Sun and on display at the Library a couple months ago. I can't remember if they were hand or machine stitched, but VERY cool!

Have another suggestion: The Cotton Loft in Destin [behind Walmart] would be able to find you a quilter as well as Margies Lace and ? something I forget, in Crestview, would also be very helpful. Give Margies a call is my suggestion, before calling Cotton Loft, to inquire who'd be able to help.:D
