They say only "temporary" ones. I think the county can allow them only for 90 days then they have to apply for a longer term one through the DEP. Problem is the folks east and west of this wall will experience increased erosion as is true with all seawalls.
Seawalls reflect 100% of a wave's energy. The beach in front of a sewall will disappear.
Seawall, beach structures, and sand rules. (http://www.co.walton.fl.us/citizen_services/Hurricane%20Dennis%20Recovery%20Information%20for% 20beach%20property%20owners.pdf)
Temporary Retaining Walls: Walton County can issue a no-fee permit under the
following conditions:
• Must be to protect a structure that is in danger of collapse from further
erosion.
• Property owner must remove the structure or submit a permit
application to the DEP for a permanent rigid coastal armoring structure
within 60 days after the emergency installation of the structure. It is
recommended that owners contact DEP to see if the structure will be
eligible for a permanent wall.
• Must have engineered plans. This requirement has been waived by
the Board of County Commissioners if the structure is installed by a
licensed contractor and the contractor completes a “piling installation
report.” DEP will require engineered plans in order to permit it as a
permanent structure.
