Thought I'd give yall a mid trip fishing update. We have caught numerous ladyfish from the beach and in kayaks using yozuris, spoons, and finger mullet. A few mangrove snapper from the lakes have made for some good eating. However, the highlight so far has been a 20# king mackerel my little brother caught this morning while drifting a cigar minnow. THe giant fish almost towed him out to sea (any mackerel recipes anybody?). Aight, Im heading back out after the rain quits. I'll keep yall posted....THis is awesome

THanks for all the tips i recieved on here earlier. They are coming in handy!

I add an egg, a little oil, 1.5 cups of flour, 1.5 teaspoons baking powder, some finely chopped onions and or peppers, a touch of lemon juice, to finely chopped pieces of Mackerel (about 3/4 to 1 pound). Mix it all together and shape into 4-5 oz patties, then fry in a skillet with a little bit of vegetable oil. Make sure the oil is hot before placing fish in pan. Cook on each side until golden brown. Serve on a bun with some remoulade or sauce of your choice. Also holds up nicely to BBQ sauce. Yummy!

So, SJ, when I am in sowal this fall, here's an idea. You cook! :biggrin:I love to cook. Let's do it, but keep the guest list manageable because I'm no professional chef. I'm thinking like eight people as a max.

As for that recipe above, seaside, try using some Corn Flakes rather than crackers. ;-)

I had several bites today. We caught several Ramora which only used up our bait. Any suggestions on how to get away from ramora?

Hi Aubrey:

If the Ramoras are still bothering you tomorrow, you may want to try trolling with artificial bait. We've got these rigs called a "Mackeral Tree" that sell for $3.49. It's a rig with four bright, flashy gold tied hooks, imitating a school of baitfish. Trash fish don't seem to care for it but the kings are attracted to it. We stock them at both stores.

Best regards,

well, here is my first report.
i live around point washington and launch my craft there at that sorry excuse for a boat ramp - but it works.
went on a little eco tour with an out of town guest and had a great experience viewing a baby osprey and momma in the nest and momma was giving baby flying lessons - wow was that cool!!.

fished the river mouths with a cork and grub and got some small trout and catfish. but the coolest part of the trip was a quick stop on the way back in at the entrance to the intracoastal. the tide was rollin out and the wind was howling against the tide from the west and a wicked rip line formed and was FULLLLL of bait and birds divin - well - several casts with a ml top dog skittered fast yielded a couple of wildly acrobatic lady fish - decent sizes too. then slammed a beautiful gator trout - big old yellow mouth and dark spots. i don't own a boga grip yet but it was around 3-4# - NICE FISH!!

till next time
