I've been concerned for sometime that our historic buildings and sites are being lost, and too many already have been. I would like to see some of our places put on this register. Exactly how to do this I'm not sure. I know there is a pdf form online, but who actually fills it out, whether it's to be done by a county official, or by petition, or by interested person. I would like to see the old school house in Pt. Washington, the post office in PW, Gulf Cemetary, the old hotel in Grayton, for starters. I think we also need our own museum in it's own building, would be nice to use one of the historic structures. Any thoughts? Would anyone be willing to sign a petition?

Not sure how you go about it, especially when the buildings are privately owned - as the old post office in PW now is. (btw, the folks who bought the post office building and the old Simeon Strickland house are restoring the house, and last time I was up there it looks AWESOME  ).
I can bring it up to the Historic Point Washington Association, but being as there might be places not in Point Washington, that might be a project that would get people interested in the Coastal Heritage Foundation again. There is also the Walton County Heritage Association, which is out of DeFuniak but I haven't checked them out. :idontno:

I know the county is working to establish Point Washington as an historic district. That will include the schoolhouse and all that in it. It's somewhere in the process now of doing paperwork, surveys and all that fun stuff.
