My dear friend Maunsel sent me the most incredible email, pictures and story this morning. Thought y'all might enjoy the pictures, good thing someone rescued him. Wonder whatever happened to to this beautiful guy?
Back in the 60's, a storm washed a porpoise into Phillips Inlet/Lake Powell. He got really comfortable in there and became very friendly. He would come up to your boat and play. Then fishermen started to mistreat him . The guy who rented boats on the lake built a pen and kept him there for a while until he became pretty rambunctuous. Eventually, some State wildlife biologists came and declared that he was sex starved and took him away. We used to go see the porpoise a lot in those days. It was right around the time the TV series, "Flipper" was running.

He looks like he is rubbing all over those folks in the picture.:D Remember (from the other thread) they are the only ones that have sex for pleasure other than humans!

The porpoise was probably dry-(or would that be "wet")humping all the people who got in the water. :floor:

I worked at a Dolphin Research Center in the Keys for 6 weeks and believe me, you can tell. Periodically, the males would have to be "assisted" by the trainers since they were kept away from the females, and didn't have opposable thumbs:biggrin:. Sorry I couldn't resist!!:funn:
You probably don't want details. :yikes:

They didn't complain, as a matter of fact they seemed quite relieved, especially since all they had to do was roll over and lay on their back.

If you do, take your own goggles in case it's someones big day :yikes: :floor: .
Actually, I doubt that would be part of a one day trainer session.

I'm glad that the trainers "assisted" the poor lads......Afterall, it would have made swimming a bit more challenging with that extra "keel" in a fixed position........:rolling: :rolling:

You all are so funny. The dolphins name at that time i think was NUGGIE! rhymes with Judgey. This was the most playful dolphin. I saw this dolphin every year while at Camp Helen. We had so much fun watching it play. Then if i am not mistaken, someone tried to kill it and put a lit firework in its mouth. Does anyone know about that? Thank you so much for the pics. I never got a pic of it and this is something i will treasure. Thank you sooo much.

I will ask Maunsel about it and let you know.
There are so many things I never got pictures of that I always wish I had. I take tons of pictures now....just in case.

With Joe just to the North of the lake, the lake will be lucky to survive a few more years. Joe was just caught emptying holding ponds into the lake..Nice job Joe...glad to have you as a neighbor…

If memory serves, I believe either Monkeys, or if not all Monkeys, then a particular type of Monkey, has sex for pleasure and to relieve STRESS! Nuff said
