This is without doubt one of my favorite fish to cook and eat. If im at a restaurant and see it on the menu, i get it. if they are selling it at the fish market i buy it and cook it. the only problem is i have never actually caught one big enough to eat (caught a few palm sized pomps fly fishing with tiny crazy charlies in the surf). i understand that most people catch them on sand fleas or shrimp off the beach, but not much beyond that.

so, any tips for a hungry fisherman? How far out do you cast? Do you use rod holders or just hold onto the rod and wait? What kind of rig do you use? Can you catch them if there is june grass around? Where do you hook a live sand flea? Do the sandfleas need to be alive or do frozen ones work? Any little tips or words of wisdom are welcome.

thanks!

Dbl hook rig with a pyramid weight (2,3 ozs. depending on surf conditions)...
You can wade out or throw from the wash...sand fleas are perferred, but (shhhh...Publix frozen peeled, deveined medium already cooked shrimp work) ..
Plus the taste good too...

I've caught them in all conditions/time of year...you have to have a hook
in the water..(never caught one with my butt perched on a stool @ The Red Bar)

Throw out...put your rod in a sand spike, crack open a cold Bud, fire up
a Marlboro Red..admire the scenery and wait patiently...and....."That's all
they are to it"

Let's be careful out there.
