30-a bumper sticker

i saw a bumper sticker that read "if you really love 30a... send all your friends to destin" (or something to that effect).

not quite sure what that means, but it sounds like an "i hate tourists" bumper sticker. if that's the case, i must not love 30a... why would we send people away? tourism is our economy. if not for tourists, none of the places we love to dine/shop at would survive, and the majority of us locals would be out of jobs. certainly tourists can be aggravating at times, but as locals, we all know places to go & things to do to escape them, and we really only have to put up with them for about 6 months out of the year anyway.

somebody clue me in... am i misunderstanding the message of the bumper sticker?

no, i think you understood it right.... however, personally, i think the message is humorous and harmless enough.... i don't think it's really intended to drive people off.... i think it's basically just another way of saying, "ain't this place GRAYT??" when i saw it, i didn't take it as rude (but that could just be me)....

that said, I worked out in Yellowstone for a season, and some employees there had a somewhat similar arrogant holier-than-thou attitude. ("this place would be great if it wasn't for all the tourists... ").... they acted like the park should be set aside for them, and no one else... of course, if no tourists passed thru, those idiots wouldn't have jobs, the animals wouldn't be protected (the $$$ from tourism goes to help preserve the habitat) and it probably wouldn't be a very special place afterall....

what troubles me EXPONENTIALLY MORE than that bumpersticker are the two handwritten "signs" that I saw yesterday at the intersection of Chat Holly and 393. They read "MEX GO HOME." :confused: It makes me TOTALLY ASHAMED to even be associated with this part of SoWal... Anyone want to meet me there and help me take em down??? .... i figure there's less chance I'll get my ass beat if don't go alone! :D

I think the bumpersticker is stupid on many levels, and there are no words for the awful sign at Chat Holly and 393. Well, maybe there are words for people who think like that- ignorant and repulsive.

I agree that the bumper sticker is stupid. As much as the "tourists" may drive me nuts at times, they are the life blood of the area. Be careful what you wish for, you just may get it.
