View Full Version : Missing Golden Retriever - North of Defuniak Springs
Discover K9

I am including a picture of the missing golden retriever.
If anyone has ANY contacts in North Walton, North Holmes, North Okaloosa or even South Alabama; please pass this info onto them. He has been gone since Sunday July 1st.
He likes people, but is skiddish. It might even be possible that he has just showed up at someone's door and they just don't know where he belongs. He is a well behaved dog and easy to fall in love with. We are desperately seeking tips, leads or suggestions. HE IS MISSED TREMENDOUSLY.
THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE US

Did you ever find your dog??? If he is scared of loud noises I am sure he is scared of fireworks. I hope you have found him by now. :(

No, we haven't found him. We are hoping and praying that he has found someone to feed him and that they just don't know where he belongs yet. We are still searching. Thanks for asking.

Is he microchipped?

Our dog is microchipped, so we didn't have an ID tag on her. But after hearing about people finding missing dogs without tags at the beach (obviously most people don't have a chip reader), I finally got around to ordering a tag for our dog. Even though she's not a huge dog (standard poodle), she's so athletic that from a standstill she's capable of making a vertical leap over our four-foot fence. We've also had guests who have accidentally let her outside the fenced area.:yikes:
Hope you find your dog soon, Discover K9.

DK9 I'm soooo sorry. Please check petfinder.com and search for him. If he has been turned into a shelter or a rescue operation, he very well may be listed there. Good Luck

A friend of mine thinks they may have seen it around Hwy 331 and Hwy 20 on Friday. Stay on the lookout- she had not seen the missing poster yet so didn't know to pick him up.

I hope so and that your friend spots her again so she can be reunited with Discover K9. It freaks me out to see dogs around busy highways, they so easily can be run over. :(

Posters have been put up around the 331 and Hwy 20 area. We have no idea if that was him, but we have to consider all options. We have contacted the sheriffs office, animal control, rescue agencies, veterinarian offices and we are running ads in local papers and trying to get it mentioned on radio stations.
He has been gone over a week now. We are not considering the worst at this time, because we don't want to give up looking.
We hope that he is with someone that just doesn't know where he belongs yet.
He is a big golden; about 96 pounds before he ran away and he is light blond, not reddish brown.
Unfortunately he was not microchipped. He knows basic obedience and he loves to swim and he has been neutered.
THANKS FOR EVERYONE'S HELP.

For everyone to consider: this dog did have a collar with tags. It was one of those with the plastic snap closure and it broke. It didn't just come apart, it actually broke. Only heavy duty leather buckle collars for us from now on.
As far as being microchipped, I think it is a great idea to do just in case someone else finds your dog. Unfortunately the snakes and gators dont have a chip reader! LOL:floor:
THANKS AGAIN FOR EVERYONE'S CONCERN AND TIPS.
We are very relieved to have him safe.

So glad puppy is home!
A suggestion for frequent visitors - have a tag with your local contact information in addition to your permanent address & home phone. Your dog will be returned much sooner if they can be calling/dropping them back off rather than calling an answering machine at an empty house!
Our dog has 2 different collars - one for each of her frequent locations! Of course, this gets funny when more than one person switches her collar to prep her for travel!
