I don't know about you Sowallers out there but I have had nothing but trouble with my carrier delivering my mail. I haven't recieved bank statements, my mail has been delivered to another address, and my mail box has repeated been left open.

I have called the post office complaining, asked my neighbors if they have had trouble, and even change my bank statements to be delivered to my office (hoping that might help).

I know I'm not being singled out because I have heard others in different neighborhoods complain.

What's a person to do? :idontno:

My carriers are good. They still deliver mail to me, even though it is addressed to a place where I lived 2 years ago. Once in a while, they leave the mail box open, but that is probably more due to my mailbox being slightly disfunctional.

joho,
Does it happen all the time? Your regular carrier might have a new substitute when he/she is not working. That was happening to my husband when he was off. His route customers knew something was different and told him. He talked with the route supervisor and sub and things improved. Sub was in too big of a hurry and was putting mail in wrong boxes as well as not picking up all mail out of boxes the customers were mailing out. Maybe inquire about the sub or monitor to determine if it is a new person or the regular carrier.

I always seem to miss my carrier due to the fact my mails delivered when I'm at work. I have left him a sticky post it asking him to close box. I realize these postal jobs are bid through contracts then postal carrier supervisors hire people to deliver. I just wish they were more selective in hiring.

I get my mail at the post office because of this and other problems...it is pretty bad around here in my experience....this is the first place I have ever lived (and I have lived a lot of places) where the mail/postal service is so bad. But, the ladies who run the post office at Seaside are the BEST!

Please don't "tick off" your mail carriers. They may go "postal".

My carrier does a grayt job. I do a lot of catalog ordering and there are days his back has to hurt from my mail. He always has a smile and a kind word.

At least it's been a while since we've gotten mail addressed to some nice folks in Choctaw Beach, but there seem to be some problems they've got on a regional level here.

But the main reason I switched over to paying almost all my bills online was persistent problems with bills both inbound and outbound not getting there on time, if at all.

And then there was the time they misplaced my issue of the Economist that was supposed to cover Katrina and go out the week after the storm. It showed up in my mailbox in December.

The carrier picks up and delivers. The machines direct where the mail should go and also are known to rip envelopes. All carriers are not bad. Some are long time, loyal employees and not contract workers. Most can be trusted with your mail.

I know that- and I like our carriers. The envelope in question was very clearly carefully slit open, not ripped in a machine. We can only figure someone thought the teabag was drugs. It was pretty funny.

jdarg,
We have had opened mail too and my husband is a rural carrier. :floor: :floor:

My husband is a long time employee. There is a lot of frustration among the regular carriers with the contract workers as many of them don't provide quality customer service and have no responsibility to the Postal Service. :bang: :pissed: That gives the Postal Service a bad name.
We can thank our Congress for the changes in the Postal Service. Congress enacted the contract work force. They should be contacted with every complaint and maybe good service will return throughout USPS. Olders carrieres routes are being cut to make room for the contract workers. That is more expensive and opens the door to numerous problems. :yikes: :idontno:

Joho, the postmaster here is Joyce huggins. She is a real pain in the a##. We had to go through the chain of command to get our mail delivered. She said that because of the unpaved conditions they couldn't deliver mail in some of the Pt. Washington area. Even though tractor trailers, Fed-Ex and ups could get here. PM me, my wife has all the numbers and contact info and you could me and I'll send my phone#. One last thing, walking wasn't an option. Ive received mail all over the world and never had a problem till I moved here

I LIKE our carriers!! And they didn't open my mail- that happened somewhere else along the way. We figured it was some sort of Homeland Security thing.

:idontno: Mail should be delivered no matter how rural or the dirt roads. Sometimes have to take a detour after a long rain if bridge is washed out or other conditions. Dirt roads in GA are muddy but the mail is still delivered. I hope someone has contacted the Regional Postal Manager as sometimes the Office Postmaster can be a pain to deal with, especially when contract workers are in most of the offices now.
The regular carriers are loyal to the oath of delivery in rain, snow, sleet, or hail (hell sometimes to deliver :floor: ).

Oh I am sooooooooooooooo with you on this one Joho. After my mother died I had all her mail forwarded. The mailman at her house 2 miles away took it upon himself, he told a neighbor he did this, went ahead and wrote deceased on her mail and returned it to sender. :pissed:
After several months I still was having mail forwarding problems. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, on May 21 I went and got a post office box at Rosemary. my mail carrier knew b/c she hand wrote me a note to just make sure. After about 3 weeks and no mail I went to PCB to check on the problem. They told me that it sometimes takes that long. SOOOOOOOOOO, I wait. NO MAIL! I called the PO again and was told the same thing. So I then called the 800 number from their website. THe lady on the phone said she did not have an address for me. So the very next day I called the PO again and spoke to Robert, our postmaster. He did some digging and it seems that someone decided to give my husband, my mom and I a new PO box at Watersound where a second homeowner receives mail. My daughter's was never changed and she receives mail still at Rosemary. :idontno: It has been over 37 days and I am still not getting any mail......    The postal service does $*@&@#^%*(!$#&&*((*&*&^&^$^%$ around here!!!!!
sorry for the rant:roll:

Your rant is justified.....It should not take 37 days to forward mail 2 miles!! Good luck getting things straightened out!

I spoke with Joyce, unfortunately she was absolutely no help. I've had my neighbors walk some of my mail to my house and some write "delivered to incorrect address" just so the carrier pays more attention. In the mean time I have no idea where my bank statements are being delivered.
I'm not pointing fingers at all the Sowal carriers, reading some of the posts
confirms there are responsible carriers out there. I just wish I had one on my route.

my carrier, same as SJ's, rocks.

Same as ours. Our mailbox is a significant distance from our house, and if we get a large parcel, he drives down and puts it on our front porch.

I really get a kick out of our UPS guy...if he doesn't have anyone else in my neighborhood to deliver to and I have a small package, he will bring it to me at work. Works out better for both of us - he doesn't have to dive off on East PW, and I don't catch grief from Fuzz! :D

Santa Rosa Beach postal service is truly "snail mail". I've sent mail from foreign countries faster than I can get a letter from Seagrove to Rosemary Beach.
I think the contract carriers are a big part of the problem, as I am constantly amazed by the mail service or lack thereof.

The great people at UPS and FedEx don't seem to have any problems finding me, but mail is a constant struggle to receive even though I've had the same address for years.
