We are traveling from Oklahoma City to Seacrest/Rosemary/Seaside in July.
Any interesting stops along the way?
We will be going through Dallas, Shreveport, La, Jackson, Ms. and then on the way back home we may go through New Orleans.
Any suggestions....food, places to stay, attractions?
Me, my husband and 8 year old son.
THanks
:D

A little known spot is the Poverty Point site just off of I-20 in the middle of nowhere in northeast Louisiana. Amazingly, the earthworks survive and your kiddo will have fun learning some history while running all over the structures.

The military park at Vicksburg, MS hugs the Mississippi River and is amazing. It might be pretty hot, and one good thing about Vicksburg is that you can drive your car through the battlefield and get a good idea of what happened. There are several huge monuments and civil war era cannons the youngsters like to climb all over.

Or you could just hightail it to SOWAL and enjoy:biggrin:

I highly recommend Vicksburg. We drove through early one morning and it was just beautiful and I learned so much.

Hi to all, I've decided I can't just read this board and never post. I live 8 miles off hwy 49S just south of Jackson,MS so please just meet me at the red light in Florence,Ms and let me zip down to Grayton w/you. really, the Poverty Point and Military Park in V'burg are both good . Your 8 year old would really enjoy the V'burg Park. There is a tunnel he can run though, hugh hills to climb and cannons to hang on. I used to take my sixth graders there every year. ps Mermy I'm posting!!
