Surprised there's not some chatter on "Sorry Charlie's" much ballyhoo'd Florida Property Tax Break.
Me?....I'm planning on voting NO in January, keeping my SOH (locked at 3%), and blowing this year's "tax savings" on a taco and order of chips & salsa at B&A's Taco Bar. Ole!!

I'm voting NO and keeping SOH as well.
the only fair and reasonable answer is to eliminate SOH and cap govt. spending at 3 percent/year max.

3% max is a bad idea because there are so many government issues that involve cost increases that the government can't control- gonna cost a lot more than 3% for a fire department to convert from volunteer to paid as population grows in an area, gonna have to pay market value to aquire property for new roads, and that's not going to come cheap. They've got to pay property insurance increases right along with the private sector, and pay for increases in employee health costs.

That's not the proposal they've passed. They want to peg future increases to some hokey "growth" issues that are presently running in the neighborhood of 5-7%. Moreover, they say they will "find some way" to fund the shortfalls that will result in the education funding as a result of giving residents the "super-duper homestead exemption."
Charlie said he's been successful in giving FLA homeowners insurance relief; my insurance bill increased 100%...now he wants to give me a tax break?

..So help me out here, Shel...
My property taxes went up 200% over the last 2 years... they have been on the rise consecutively for the last 5 years in this county.
What happens to all this excess revenue?
How does it work around here..gather as much revenue as you can and then set the budget?:idontno:
Now when there is a threat of reducing taxes, essential services are wondering where to cut the "fat"?
I won't go into how much taxes I pay on non homestead property.

Bottom line is the county wants to kill growth by increasing taxes. They have already "killed the goose that laid the golden egg", and I guess they want to get richer!

SOH went into effect in 1995...why are people just starting to cry the blues 10 years later? Hint: It rhymes with "Zinvestulators."
