It's a community just west of Grayton Beach on 30A.

It's more like a neighborhood. I think of a community as having services and businesses.

tomatO, tomAto

I think of a neighborhood as a section of a city or town, but community does seem a little misleading as there aren't really services available.

Baked - Gulf Trace is a large group of homes w/ its own beach accesses. It doesn't have restaurants etc. but is located w/in minutes of great restaurants and a variety of activities on 30A.

It's going to be quieter than a lot of stretches of 30-A. At least one big name celebrity owns a beach house out there.

My family has stayed in Gulf Trace every 4th of July week for the past 12 years and love it. And when I say family - I mean my WHOLE family, about 20 of us! It's quite and the beaches are perfect. And it's walking distance via the beach to the Red Bar.

Cheers!

I've always called it a subdivision.

I also stayed there for 12+ years on Memorial Day weekend, and LOVE it. Southern Heaven is probably my favorite house, even though it's on the back side. Lots of great places to stay in there.

As I recall from trying to walk along the beach from Grayton Beach State Park cabins (west of Grayton) to old Grayton Beach, Gulf Trace was about the only development between the two.

I think you're right. The beach there is never crowded, and if you go east OR west from Gulf Trace you can be all by yourself most of the time. The beach is also wide, which is nice, and has a gentle slope. For people like me who put the sand chair at the edge of the water and read, it's perfect.

On another note, dear Hop taught me to surf when I was down last at Dune Allen. Later I went to Gulf Trace while he was at work, and the waves were even better. It was shallower out to the sand bar, for one thing. Don't know if learning to surf is an issue, but I recommend it...
