Going to J'ville this weekend and don't know much about accommodations in the city. I was looking at kid friendly B & B's or something downtown or near the river. I'm looking at the Jenks House and the Inn on Oak. Does anyone have insight?
San Marco section of town near the river is nice. See if you can find a place there. Eat at Cafe Aix on San Marco Blvd. The science museum is nearby and you can take a water taxi back and forth across the river.

Haven't stayed in Jax, but TripAdvisor.com visitors give high ratings for Inn on Oak, BUT, some comment that it's not exactly the place for families with kids.
You may want to check out comments about other lodgings in tripadvisor.com to help narrow your search.

Couldn't tell you about B&Bs, and pretty much all the hotels along the river are fairly $$$. I've been at the Adams Mark on business; it is within walking distance of Jacksonville Landing and the water taxis, and we enjoyed our time there.
A side trip to St Augustine isn't bad either. I don't know how your little one will do in hot weather, but I adore St Augustine.

Not sure where to stay downtown. Know of a small, nothin' fancy but clean motel on Neptune Beach at the end of Atlantic Blvd. called the Seahorse with restaurants in walking distance. Kinda reminds me of the Redbar area in Sowal.
I just found out about a sweet little mom and pop seafood place called Gene's in the Arlington area and I believe also in Mayport. It's full of families and great seafood, yummy fried shrimp for $12 dinner, grayt 'shut up dawgs' , I mean hushpuppies, too

Thanks for the help, guys. I made a reservation at the Thomas Jenks house in Riverside. The inn keepers seem very nice, and I think we'll be the only guests. I'll give a report next week.

The Inn at Oak Street - fabulous B&B, my favorite there.
