Lorenzo Pacifico, Vittorio Gianni and master chef Alfonso Di Bonito, owners of Locanda Italiana Ristorante and Pizzeria, offer a different type of Italian cuisine. While visiting friends here on vacation, Pacifico noticed many old style or northern Italian restaurants in the area, but none for really southern Italian or Mediterranean cuisine. Two months ago, the owners opened Locanda Italiana in the former Guglielmo’s location at Santa Rosa Village on U.S. Highway 98 in Santa Rosa Beach.
The emphasis is on fresh seafood, Pacifico said. “That’s why people come here, to eat seafood.”

The food is really authentic southern Italian. I've been there 3 times and really enjoyed it. The gnocchi in a marinara sauce with thin slices of mozzarella on top of the dish is outstanding. They made chickem parm for my wife even though it was not on the menu. Salads are great and the prices of the entrees are very reasonable too.

A friend and I enjoyed our first delicious dinner at Locanda last night.

1st: Salad & Hot Bread w/ the most scrumptious pesto dipping sauce that is :drool: soooo addictive in fragrance & taste that I was tempted to hog it all up & spoil my dinner (gold stars for me, for ONCE I didn't succumb ..."restricting myself to only 4 pieces"..HA!).

My friend had seafood risotto. I had fettucine w/ shrimp & crab in a light cream sauce, arugula & shaved cheese garnish...scraped my plate CLEAN (boo-hoo...saved no leftovers to enjoy today!).

We thoroughly enjoyed an delightful wine we'd never tried before: Eartha Pinot Gris (a blend of pinot grigio & sauvignon blanc). Since I always have trouble remembering wine "brands"... word association was the key to remembering this one: "Eartha a sthmooth tathtee wine for ya!"

Bravo Locanda Italiana!!! :clap::clap::clap:

We ate at the restaurant three times during our visit to SoWal back in June.

Absolutely the best southern Italian I have ever eaten! And yes, that dipping sauce was awesome! I can't wait to get back down there and enjoy it again. Esther is a wonderful hostess -- ask for her!

Vittorio, please come to Nashville and open a 2nd restaurant!
