Okay... I am from Baltimore, Maryland and I know my crab cakes. The absolute only place where I found something comparable was Sarah K's Gourmet in Destin. (same place where best buy, cracker barrel are). they are about $8.50 and they are nothing but crab meat. no fillers, no peppers, onions, bread... nothing to take away from the crab meat. BUT I always sprinkle Old Bay (Publix) on them so I feel l like i am home. Trust me, I have been to the fanciest restaurants here and I laugh when they claim " Maryland style crabcakes".

Interesting. I never noticed that anywhere down there. Why would restaurants with proximity to the Gulf want to claim that? Let the Maryland crabcakes stay in Maryland. ;-)

I have not tried Sarah K's yet but will soon.
To date, Cafe Tango is my favorite place for crab cakes - Florida crab cakes, that is.

I have always wondered about Sarah K's. Maybe I'll give it a whirl. Personally, I like a little breading on my crabcakes, and a little bit of peppers and onions on the inside.

I think the same thing when I see restaurants south of the Mason-Dixon line advertise Maine lobsters. I say, eat locally caught seafood and forget about the stuff you have to fly in. (Although I can be pursuaded to bend the rules a bit when you're talking Alaskan king crab!)
Not to complicate matters, but Costco has wonderful frozen Baltimore crabcakes, and yes, they're made in Baltimore.

Crab cakes at Blue Ridge Grill in Buckhead (a tony neighborhood in the ATL) are the best I've ever had ... even better than at Bacchanalia (ranked as a five-star restaurant in Atlanta) whose crab cakes are divine, although a bit wet from the citrus juice.
Try them at both places if you're ever in A-town.

I've had a ton of crabcakes in Maryland - and yummy they certainly are! but, I truly love Red Bar & 331 crabcakes - they are purely lump crabmeat and delicious - maybe a tad bit of breadcrumb on the outside and pan sauteed - no filler! these are good old Florida crabcakes. can't beat 'em.
I've never seen a maryland crabcake in Florida.

Here's crab cake blasphemy (my Maryland born mother turns in her grave)- I use the recipe on the side of the Old Bay's can and substitute milk-soaked Pepperidge Farm Dressing for the filler! I broil them in a muffin pan and they pop out nicely formed and crispy.

I'm gonna try this recipe! :clap_1: I prefer mine with a little filler too.

Coming from Seagrove driving towards Destin it is on the left (Very small place) just before Goatfeathers.
This is my favorite place in the area.

 crabcakes at redbar/331:wub:   and served with those mashed potatoes. and then straight to bed (too full for anything else).
I will not order them anywhere else either (not even in other cities), they are always a disappointment.

Maryland crabcakes are awesome. I had my fill of them last week, in Maryland.
However, Maryland doesn't have fresh gulf shrimp, or fresh Choctawhatchee Bay shrimp. ;-)
I'll have to try Sarah K's. Another good source is Chesapeake Bay Gourmet, which gives me an acceptable way to enjoy my QVC addiction...

Cafe Tango is located across (south side) from Bea's Interiors on 30-A
One of my favorite restaurants.
I have heard that the crab cakes from Sarah K's are wonderful that's a must try for me.

Mermaid, the ones at cosco's, Bj's, Walmart, etc, I believe the company that makes them is Phillips in baltimore which is an excellent restaurant. BUT once they are frozen and shipped, they taste and smell kinda of ... snatchy (for lack of a better word).
I also use the Old Bay can recipe.
