http://www.w3schools.com/ is a great resource and completely free training site to learn all stages of website building from the beginner to the advanced.

http://www.w3.org/ is the World Wide Web Consortium which is basically the international governing body on all things to do with web coding. Not a great learning how-to site but an invaluable resource to understanding all things web based. However, they do have validators which will scan your codes and point out errors.

Lastly, but my favorite is http://www.webmasterworld.com which is the end-all be-all forum site for webmasters. Any question you have can be asked or more than likely has already been asked in those threads. You could spend a lifetime reading and learning over there.

I have created many websites, personal and ecommerce alike, and can lend you some advice if you get stuck or have a question. But to create simple text and photo pages you should have no problem. In fact, with todays WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) programs you don't even need to understand HTML coding. You basically move text and photos around the editor as you would in Word then upload the code to your host. Fin.

There are many free WYSIWYG editors online. Just google for them. If you really get into it and want a professional program I'd recommend Dreamweaver.

Good luck! :clap_1:

edit: almost forgot. You mentioned wanting your own url. If you want that then you'll need to purchase one and secure a host to host your site on their servers. For a single site I would recommend using Godaddy.com. I think the url purchase runs around $10/year and hosting varies but you should be able to get something in the $10/month range. I know some first time builders like Yahoo for both as well.

If you buy a domain name through GoDaddy.com you can get "Website Tonight" site builder software as part of their deal. It is really inexpensive compared to anything else I found online.

It seems to be one of the easiest site building packages available, as you don't have to learn any HTML coding. I'm using it now, but our site is under construction so you won't see anything yet at www.firedupseaside.com

Just go to www.GoDaddy.com and take a look...

Or call Kurt, his websites always look better than most anyone elses in SoWal!

Yahoo small biz...I know the "techies" shutter but they are great - a bit more pricey but if want ease, they have won "Best Of" awards for it.

Folks have replied with useful resources if you want to do this yourself...

PM me if you would like me to do this for you. I am a software consultant so I don't do websites for a living but based on what you said you needed, I am happy to help...

Cheers, George

Check with your internet provider. I'm with Earthlink. A small amount of webhosting space is included in our monthly service. It was enough to create a website for our beach house. (5 pages, 7-8 photos) Additionally, they have a program with templates to walk you through setting up a webpage. It's very easy. If you want your own URL, you'll have to get it through Godaddy. But the rest can usually be done (Free!) through your ISP.

Good Luck!

Godaddy.com has a great price on buying a url, but I found their web-building pages were not user-friendly. I bought their 'make a website in a night' and ended up calling for a refund. And, if you buy your url from godaddy (or any other site for that matter), the url cannot be transferred for 60 days. So, don't buy your url until you have decided on hosting or you'll have to wait a couple of months to get your site up.

Check out www.WaterColorBeachRental.com.

I built this site completely (photos, copy, links, etc.). If you (or anyone else out there!) is interested in having me do this for you, please PM me. I can register your url for you, design, and host for a very reasonable price. Websites are a great marketing tool for small businesses, realtors, etc. or would be great to have for families (like a reunion or new baby) and events (like weddings or bar/bat mitzvahs).

Thanks, ya'll!

I will second www.GoDaddy.com (http://www.GoDaddy.com). I don't have a personally created website right now, but I have used them in the past for myself and I am currently creating my husband's site with them. They are thorough, inexpensive & very helpful with a great deal of things. I have used BellSouth (only for billing convenience in ATL) and it was a nightmare, including the fact that they aren't releasing my hubby's domain name to godaddy right now. This has been an issue since Sept, but luckily godaddy has options in regards to that and they have solved the whole problem that I am having.
