any of you sowal friends experiencing the bad weather around today ? we are just having rain and wind - we still have at least 6 inches of snow on the ground here, it just doesn't want to go away ....we also have a level 1 travel warning for our area due to standing water on the roadways.

Audie, I was just reading my on-line subscription of the Walton Sun and it looks like Walton County is in for severe weather. I think it's crummy weather all around, that is, unless Kimmifunn chimes in and tells us about the eternal sunshine of southern California. ;-)

Yes, we have had thunder storms all day, sump pump working like crazy. We still have lots of yucky gray and black snow, sludge stuff. But they just announced in the past few minutes we are to get some more snow tonight.

Two hours north of us, Enterprise, AL, a tornadoe touched down at the high school and injured several students, and eight are still trapped under debris. I believe the roof on the gym collapsed and cars are reported to be overturned and scattered about the parking lot. School was about to be out (1pm) when the warning came, so the students stayed at the school. I haven't seen the news reports, but it may be on the tv.

SJ, that's awful. My friend in Huntsville said school got out at 11 am today because of the impending severe weather.

Our kids were released at 11:00 today. We are having torential rain right now with thunderstorms. Wind is blowing pretty bad. I feel so bad for my neighbors to the south of me. It is very sad. I had not heard of any fatalties, and did not know of the students still trapped. The scene they are showing on the news looks awful.:(

8 Confirmed fatallites, and 40 more taken to area hospitals. :( The high school was in the direct path of the Tornado. They were going to dismiss school at 1:00, but the tornado hit earlier. Just so sad.

They just said on NBC news 13 that 13 people have died in Alabama today. :( 8 in Enterprise and I can't find out yet where the rest are. Will post when I hear more.

Just heard the other 5 are in Miller's Ferry which is close to Selma/Montgomery.

The toll is surely to rise. My understanding is the BOE in Enterprise made a late decision to close the school. The students were all preparing to leave when the tornado hit. Poor thinking with tragic results.

We have been under two separate tornado warnings in Tuscaloosa today. Luckily, no real damage here.

I just saw on the news a home in Tuscaloosa with it's roof ripped off. They stated they were not sure if it was straight line winds or a tornado.

We live in Hoover but work in West Jefferson and we have had warning all afternoon here in Hueytown....I am ready to go home!

Very windy and cloudy, but the really severe stuff tends to need to get a bit inland before it really cranks up.

I just received a report from my mom, and a tornado touched down a few miles near her (she lives in tornado alley -- SW GA), and destroyed all of the probably 200 year old Oak trees around my cousins house and in the yard, which once belonged to my Great Grandfather. No injuries to people, and no damage to the homes, but trees are down everywhere and the power is out and some roads blocked, but she said the event has resulted in a family reunion, with all of the extended families coming to check on everyone. She sees tornadoes hitting in the area at least once every year, and you can usually follow the path of the storms from aerial photos.

I am watching the news here in AZ. It seems devastating in Enterprise, AL. My wife was a teacher in Newburgh, NY for thirty years. About 15 years ago there was a big tornado that killed 8 children in our town !! Tornadoes are unheard of in NY. There was no warning at all....very scary.

NWS reports, The Weather Channel and CNN report that the Alabama Emergency Management Agency says that 15 were killed at the high school.

Also, there is a storm showing some rotation moving from Okaloosa County into Western Walton County, so keep an eye out for it.

I just talked to my friend in Warren Ohio and they are worried about flooding.

I just talked to my friend driving back from New Orleans as I type. He has been driving behind the storm, but may have just caught up with it at Pensacola. He said there is a real bad wreck on the bridge on 98. Traffic backed up. I told him to continue to drive slow ans stay behind the storm. Meanwhile we are under a tornado watch till 5am here in Washington County. The wind sheer here has already made all my patio furniture lawn furniture.

Last count I heard from Enterprise was 19 and still looking for folks under the rubble out at the school.

My thoughts and prayers are going out to them!

Fasten your seatbelts y'all, we're in for a looonnnngggg nite.

Yep, looks like a possible super-cell or at least lots of wind sheer right now from Graceville over to 231 and up to Dothan. They're telling people to take cover now.

punzy that is a common thing around here. Wait until morning, then try reseting the phone modem by first unplugging it from the power for 60 seconds. Then see if that works. If not then try the reset button on the phone modem and hold it in for 15 seconds before releasing. That is per the MediaCom phone people, and one of the two usually works, unless they cut a line somewhere.

Ain't that the truth. It's the one thing I miss from Denver.
Didn't sleep a wink last night. My heart goes out to the tornado victims and their families. :(
Weird thing:
At preschool yesterday, the weather system came in, and we got the tornado warning. During naptime, every single kid in our toilet-trained 3 year old class, (and several of the big kids, 4 and 5 yrs old, across the hall) peed their pants.
I swear it was the air pressure or some such thing. Isn't it a full moon as well?

The first photo is from yesterday. The other 3 are from today after the wind kicked up. We haven't had a blizzard like this since the winter of '97, the year we had 11 storms and a 500 year flood. At least if we stay inside and off the roads we will be safe, unlike the poor folks in the SE. We also had plenty of warning that this was going to happen.

Thanks. It's not the first time he has lost some of these big things. They are fairly huge. Back in the 70's, a big twister relocated two of them seven miles down the road, twisted out of recognition. I just heard back from my Dad and he found both of them in the woods behind the field - unusable, of course, but what can you do? Just pick up the pieces and move your mind to what's next. Funny thing is that he's been talking about quiting farming for since 1992. Maybe ...
