WaltonSunDave, thank you for the great article. Hopefully it will bring more folks our way. Oh, and :welcome: to the board. Now maybe you will get sucked into our world. ;-) Wow, what a nice article. However, one clarification. I haven't organized any luncheons or get-togethers, I just crash them. I loved how you spelled funn with "2 n's" because that is how we spell it around here. If anyone gets a copy of the paper, get me one please and hang on to it until I get there if few weeks!!!! Nevermind, I will just print it. DUH!

I don't own there, as in I don't have to pay property taxes. But I always feel ownership for the time I am there. My friends here think I own there since I'm a nervous wreck when it storms in Sowal, not for property, but for friends and paradise.

Besides, I'm sure you've paid enough in rental fees to claim ownership of that hammock. You are also contribute to the Sowal economy. Lets see there's the liquor store, the grocery store, Tom Thumb, & any number of dining establishments you may frequent while you live there for 2 weeks a year. Sowal benefits from your visits, just as we do here.

Besides we all own the beach. Join me "This land is your land..."

:clap_1: :clap_1: :clap_1: and welcome to the board WaltonSunDave.:welcome: I was just talking about this message board today to someone in our wintery town in Michigan and was saying how wonderful SoWal.com is -- it has provided information, humor, comfort during tragedies, and advice of all kinds. I was telling my friend that an anthropology or sociology academic should do a study on how this virtual community developed and became such a wonderful place in which the relationships are so special. I feel lucky to be a part of this place!

fyi - out of towners - the newspaper version includes an image of the message board front page (forums) and a big sowal sticker! :clap_1:

I think the article was very well written and an excellent introduction to sowal.com. there are some things that are just hard to represent in a short article though - such as how the board is represented by people from so many parts of the country with diverse backgrounds and a pretty wide range of ages. south walton is the common ground. but the community encompasses so much more.

I was proud to read all about it!  :D glad they didn't mention the PCake thread though... tee hee. although its a perfect example of how we all came together to help out a fellow sowaller who needed to find a special local baker, and how we all got to be witness to a very happy and successful ending (bachelorette party at Red Bar, complete with photos of party and cake, and a printed book of the thread presented to the lucky bachelorette)...

Too funny - whenever I tell people about all the Sowallers I've met, they instantly assume there must be an axe murderer in the bunch - so far, so good - haven't met one yet (that I know of anyway!)
