Beach weather mid-April to mid-May??

We are considering a return to the panhandle for a month sometime in April and May. What is the beach like at that time.....air and water temperatures? In the past we've rented houses with private pools (August and September), so I'm wondering if an unheated pool would be somewhat comfortable in April and May. Any information will be appreciated.
