I read this article in my morning NY Times and it seems pretty accurate. The real challenge at Panama City will be overcoming the honky tonk factor. On the other hand, that is something that has always been somewhat endearing to those of us who have lived at the beaches or have been going there for years. When I was a teenager, there was nothing more exotic than a night of "Goofy Golf" or dancing at "The Hangout" at PCB. And as children, we would beg my dad against taking "the truck route" to PC as opposed to creeping along the beach route. It was quite the spectacle!
Good to see some more news and a forecast as to what the new international airport will do for the beaches in that area. Combined with yet another moderate storm season (One would hope.) and some sanity in the areas of homeowner insurance and property taxes, we could be climbing out of the trough soon. It's not as if the rest of the country isn't also experiencing a flat real estate market. To some extent, SoWal is just seeing what the rest of the country is. Just that there has been so much emphasis on real estate investment down there that the correction translates into something relatively unknown.
