Lisa, if you have worked in photoshop before, the online tutorials are very helpful. If you are new to photoshop, I would suggest a class at a community college. They will not teach you everything, but will cover the basics. If there is something particular that you are wanting to do, pm and I can help you.

I was just thinking of you. I ran into Hunter a few days ago.

As for photoshop, is there anyone who knows how to do everything it is capable of? I would love a copy of photoshop, but the bucks are big which you must fork over to receive a copy, so I stick with a more basic program which was included with some purchase I made long ago, like a printer or camera. Even it gets a little tricky if you don't use the features regularly. From what I remember, there are a few photoshop junkies on this board, so hopefully, you will see some answers soon. Happy New Year!

We have it. Of course I have no idea how to use it. Please let me know if you find a way to learn about it!

L_a_t_b....I have been using Photoshop for a couple of years and still don't have command of all the elements. If you can describe what you are trying to do, I may be able to walk you through it.....am certainly willing to try......

The online tutorials are good as is a class if you can get one locally. If you take a class, I found that it helps to have some basic familiarity with the software before hand.

Fine. Anyway, all I really want to do on it is draw stuff on faces (basically "deface" people and make them look funny). Now that everyone has seen my picture, real enhancement skills would be pointless- touching up wrinkles would probably be obvious!:floor:

Kitty- I have PLENTY of crayons.

Kitty- I have PLENTY of crayons. You don't need photoshop to do that. You could use the microsoft Paint program for that.

SJ...Glad you saw Hunter...He came home from Tally for the Holidays...dropped off his dirty clothes...raided my fridge and...well...that was about all I saw of him!! I think he enjoyed his time off...

Regarding the Photoshop...I've done the online tutorials..and attempted to read the manual. Meh. I'm better with hands on learning. There are workshops that I could attend in Atlanta, but...THAT would mean actually Leaving sowal and Going to Atlanta. I had hopes that perhaps there was someone out there that would be willing to come to the gallery and walk me thru some basic things. I may just have to break down and take a workshop. Finding the time to do that is another story...

Now I have to go read the Appalach Travel thread that someone I know started.....

Lisa, make sure the workshop you choose is sponsored by NAPP. I've been taking seminars from Scott Kelby for about 10 years now, he is the founder of NAPP and they are really good. I've also been to some that were not apart of that organization and they were a waste of time. Good luck, it's alot of funn --- but not as easy as everyone seems to think :D

You can definitely teach yourself how to use it (I did but it's taken me about 3 years!) but remember, most professionals learn it while in schoolbecause Photoshop and the other programs in the Creative Suite are built for professionals, not the layperson. That said, I've LOVED lynda.com (http://www.lynda.com)- it's only $25/month (or you can purchase a CD for specific programs you want to learn) which allows me to learn about all different programs by Adobe and others like Macromedia - just upgraded to CS2 last fall and, although totally tickled by all the programs and the potential to create, I'm completely overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information I need to learn. Lynda.com has been a godsend for this. Plus, if you are hands on, you can opt to work through the tutorial that way, too. Check it out and tell me how it goes ... good luck!

Well said! I've used Photoshop for over five years and I'm still finding new things to do with it and I reference the help section often. It's a very versatile program and I've found there are a number of ways to accomplish any given task. It can work wonders if you are willing to invest the time it takes to learn the program. If you're familiar with with pod casts issued through i-tunes, check out "Photoshop TV" they come out weekly and each issue guides you through a few tasks AND they're free! Also, Barnes & Nobles has a variety of books on photoshop 'tricks'

Wow! Thank you for that info on "Photoshop TV"!
I've been using Photoshop forever, however, being self taught I'm still learning something new every time I use the program.

Lisa at the Beach...
If I can help you in any way, don't hesitate to drop me a line. It's a fantastic problem that has helped me with all my web/graphic design needs for years.

Check out benwhilmore.com and adobeevangelists.com

If all you want to do is distort faces, you can try the "Liquify" filter and play with that. Jeffrey

Yeah- ditto here- if you need anything in particular let me know. I work on it for all day long.

Check out Photoshop Clas sin a Book- they come with a CD Rom- great instructions that were actually used in the class I took- there was no need for the teacher. The book was awesome.

I've been working with AP since 1993. I'm now on AP CS3. Send me your e-mail and I'll send you a few samples. Also we are planning to move to Seagrove full time this August.

I'm familiar with Photoshop. I heavily used Photoshop 6-7, and again recently am using CS3.

If anti-proprietary, or just unwilling to spend on the product/obtain it via certain methods...
http://www.gimp.org (http://www.gimp.org/) - Excellent photo manipulation program. Open source.

If you want certain features, the GIMP has plug-ins:
http://registry.gimp.org/

The interface differs greatly from Photoshop, but it mostly has the same capabilities. I use this on my open source operating system, and before I got CS3.

Generally, Photoshop handles printing better. But it is possible to set up and use Photoshop's colour profile in the GIMP.

Using google, and forums dedicated to either of the programs has been my method of learning things.
