A few weeks ago Roxanne, Barry and I, along with a couple of others, were considering putting together a "Jolly Roger" reunion for sometime in January. It looks like we may be getting together after all, but not as we intended.
Does anyone have any updates about any arrangements or memorial services for them? I haven't seen anything posted anywhere.
Whatever is done, I'm sure it will be festive, as Roxanne always had a warm hug and a bright smile, and you could always count Barry to make you laugh (or groan!).
Their physical presence will be missed, but the memories will be with us forever! Cheers to the eternal newlyweds! A Celebration of your lives is in order!

Much love,
Kenny

Kenny, do you have any pics of Roxanne and Barry? I know my daughters knew them from their visits to Borago. I am so sorry for your loss and the loss of their families.

Thank you Kenny for the update. I was so concerned about a service since their families are out of state but we will always be their SoWal family. Roxanne and Barry will be truly missed!

Sadly I don't. That's a shame, I didn't realize I didn't till you asked. I guess we all just take for granted that our friends are going to be around forever and sometimes don't think of things like that. You'd think after all these years I would have learned THAT lesson already. She had/has a website which is still up and running.

www.realestatebyroxanne.com (http://www.realestatebyroxanne.com)

She used to work for Pelican as well. People may know them from when we hung out at Jolly Roger, Fermentations, Shades (old and new), Pandoras, etc. You get together a couple of nights a week for several years and who thinks to bring a camera.

It's like a six degrees of separation though. You may not know them but you know someone that does, that's guaranteed!

I still can't believe they're gone.

She does look familiar but I don't think I ever met her. Still can't believe the tragedy! Did they or he/she have children?

Yesterday, I was listening to my voice messages and played back the few saved messages I had. One was from Roxanne when she had called me earlier last week. She and I had a long conversation last Tuesday. She was indeed an intelligent soul and enjoyed every minute of life. I think the week prior, I saw her and Barry at Cerulean's supporting local musicians, Sisters Johnson. They both were smiling and having fun.

I think that they celebrated life daily, not waiting for some holiday occasion as an excuse. Their death is sad, only for the people who will no longer be able to spend time with them and enjoy their company. I think they are great examples for us to live each day to the fullest as they did.

What a wonderful, precious life we have.

Thank you so much "Smiling JOe", that is the point I intended to make, was that each time I was out with them, it was dinner, drinks, and celebrating "the moment". I last saw them at Cerulean (sp?) to see SisterJohnson, and that's where Roxanne, Barry, Coop, Peggy and I started planning the Jolly Roger reunion. We were even joking about how we were eventually going to tell Jay and Lori!
I hope most everyone gets to see each other today at the beach, I unfortunately cannot get out of work today, but I will be at St. Rita's on Friday. I will probably go down to the beach afterwards and toast to them overlooking the gulf.

Best to all,

Kenny

Roxanne has two grown children, I believe the daughter lives in Colorado and the son in Calif. Wish i knew more.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated for Roxanne Costello DeLong and husband Barry DeLong on Friday, December 29, 2006 at St. Rita's Catholic Church at 10:30 am. Roxanne was the broker of Seashore Properties of the Emerald Coast Inc.

The beachside bonfire memorial last night was a wonderful tribute to both Roxanne and Barry. The beach was thick with people, family and friends, neighbors. I believe the "party" was just what they would have wanted to celebrate their life here on Earth.

No, I fell asleep on the couch, still worn out from all the partying I did with Eli the night before!

It was great seeing you guys too, and also the great turn out at the service at St. Rita's. Especially those that hung out with Roxanne & Barry at the Jolly Roger.

Anyone interested, we're doing a Jolly Roger reunion Saturday, January 13th, 7pm at Shades on the Loop. Let's stay in touch. PM me if you can be there. I want to start doing a count, to give the restaurant heads up.

Hope to see y'all there. Roxanne, Barry and I started planning it. Now lets do it up right.

That is a great photo! Thanks for posting.

In re to the Jolly Roger Reunion:

I've been talking it over with Jay and Lori and we realized there are so many people that would like to be involved, it would actually take longer to round everyone up. So they are actually considering doing one in the Spring, and probably somewhere in SanDestin. I'm still bucking for Shades as its closer to where Jolly Roger was, and maybe more centrally located to where everyone lives.

Of course what am I talking about? I still have to drive all the way down from BFE! :bang:

Anywho, despite all that, I will still be coming down to the beach, January 13th, Shades, 7pm, because that's what Roxanne and Barry wanted, and they would be disappointed if I stood them up! ;-)

So if anyone wants to meet me there, it would be great! Besides it will be the day of the NFC/AFC divisional playoffs, and what a better place to watch football right? And after all wasn't that what made going to Jolly Roger fun- watching football? OK, so it was College, but nonetheless...

Later,
K

Thank you all for your kind words. It was nice to read of your memories of Barry and Roxanne. Their lives certainly touched a lot of others in a positive way. I keep expecting them to come back from one of their trips and give me a call. No one will ever again be as interested as Barry was in what is in my refrigerator, what I'm eating now, what I ate yesterday and what I'm planning to eat tomorrow!

Everyone has been so supportive and we truly appreciate it. It does help. My brother Gary and I hope to be in Santa Rosa sometime in the next month or so. I hope we are able to see some of you at that time. I will post a message when I know the date. Thank you for your love for them.

FYI Roxanne's daughter is an attorney who was planning to move from Denver to CA. Her son is a PhD student in archeology at University of NewYork at Buffalo. Barry did not have any children.

I talked at length with Roxanne's daughter at Santa Rosa Beach Club. What a remarkable young woman.
Lori and I were about to speak to Gary when the Bagpiper began to play, and well, you know the rest. It was all very difficult and yet beautiful.

Please remember you are family now. Don't be a stranger.

I'll be up in Atlanta all weekend but I'm sure you run into some of us! The weather should be great this weekend. I know that what you are about to go through will be rough. Take some time out to go the beach and walk it off! Enjoy the wonder and beauty of it all as they did!

Strength be with you!
