About the Flags
Just a reminder. As I sometimes do, after going out to the second sandbar, I brought some sand dollars in for some of the kiddies on the beach. One adult wanted to go out there with me to see the sand dollars for himself, saying he didn't feel secure enough on his own.
I told him I wouldn't take him out unless he had some flippers or a raft. He procured a raft and we went together. While on the second sandbar I looked up and he looked to be in trouble. His raft got away from him when he went down for a sand dollar. I hurried over and went to retrieve his raft, which because of the wind wasn't easy, even with the aid of flippers.
I got the raft back to him and we finally decided to go back to shore. He asked that I help him get in, saying he wasn't in the best of shape. Without the raft to hang onto, literally, he would have drown. The red flags were present today and out there for every wave that helped you in, you could feel the pull going out. Not near as bad as it can get, but with nothing to hold onto and no flippers, it could easily be a recipe for disaster.
The guy was gracious and offered me $20 bucks for taking him out and for helping him get back in. Of course I refused the money, as it was my pleasure to show someone how neat it can be out there.
But he is now aware of something else. The flags are no joke. His son wanted to go back out when his dad told him how many sand dollars were out there. Dad said 'No'. I reiterated to the kid that his dad was right.
Btw, if there are people who want to go on some adventures, including being escorted out there in the Gulf to look for stuff, I might be willing. But regardless, just be careful and respect the flags. I'd hate to hear sirens on the 4th.
Best wishes and good times to everyone.
