Driving Times to Destin

Thought this may be informative to out-of-staters. I am letting everyone know the driving distances from many cities that enjoy vacationing in Destin. Everything is provided by Mapquest.

Atlanta, GA- 373 miles, 6 hrs 13 mins
Baton Rouge, LA- 306 miles, 4 hrs 57 mins
Birmingham, AL- 303 miles, 5 hrs 9 mins
Charlotte, NC- 617 miles, 10hrs 5 mins
Chicago, IL- 963 miles, 15 hrs 20 mins
Cincinnati, OH- 770 miles, 12 hrs 23 mins
Columbia, SC- 511 miles, 9 hrs 2 mins
Dallas, TX- 747 miles, 11 hrs 33 mins
Des Moines, IA- 1215 miles, 19 hrs 10 mins
Detroit, MI- 1026 miles, 16 hrs 26 mins
Houston, TX- 574 miles, 9 hrs 5 mins
Hunstville, AL- 402 miles, 6 hrs 36 mins
Indianapolis, IN- 779 miles, 12 hrs 24 mins
Jackson, MS- 339 miles, 5 hrs 52 mins
Knoxville, TN- 554 miles, 8 hrs 5 mins
Lincoln, NE- 1242 miles, 19 hrs 29 mins
Little Rock, AR- 682 miles, 10 hrs 55 mins
Louisville, KY- 666 miles, 10 hrs 41 mins
Madison, WI- 1114 miles, 17 hrs 37 mins
Memphis, TN- 546 miles, 8 hrs 54 mins
Mobile, AL- 107 miles, 2 hrs
Nashville, TN- 492 miles, 7 hrs 56 mins
New Orleans, LA- 249 miles, 4 hrs 7 mins
Oklahoma City, OK- 950 miles, 14 hrs 40 mins
Raleigh, NC- 773 miles, 11 hrs 37 mins
Richmond, VA- 921 miles, 13 hrs 55 mins
St. Louis, MO- 799 miles, 12 hrs 41 mins
Topeka, KS- 1109 miles, 17 hrs 24 mins

Times are based on driving the speed limit the entire time...Most of us don't. I make the Nashville trip in exactly 7 hours.

Re: Driving Times to Destin

It is 636 miles from Louisville, KY to Grayton Beach, door to door. With children, that translates to 11 to 13 hours, depending on traffic, food stops, and pulling over to make empty threats about punishment if they don't stop whining.

I think the Mers make it to SoWal from Indy in about the same time, even though it is 2 hours north of Louisville!!

Re: Driving Times to Destin

From our house in Hoover (Birmingham) to our house in Seagrove...door to door...243 miles...I can drive it in 4 hours...no, I did not say driving at the speed limit...nor do I let anyone out to take potty breaks, or stop for fuel! I am serious about getting there!

I am like Mermy...you just have to wait to go to the potty!

Re: Driving Times to Destin

If you are leaving on a holiday weekend, Friday night, from North Atlanta with a moving truck and a car full... 1 adult, 3 kids (one of them a newborn), a cat and 2 hermit crabs, it can take 11 hours (5 hours in ATL itself - no stopping) to get from there to Santa Rosa Beach. Pure hell to get to heaven.

Add in the fact that we underestimated the size of moving truck we needed and had to leave a chunk of stuff in good ol' Alpharetta even made it more laughable. Glad we're not pack rats, we'd have needed 2 of them!

Re: Driving Times to Destin

My FIL lives in Charleston, SC... I think it's only supposed to be 8ish hours from Charleston to here. Well, it took us 12. And trust me, my DH rarely drives the speed limit. :o We must have stopped a dozen times for potty breaks, snack breaks, nursing breaks, walking breaks, etc... Totally insane and made me never want to go back.
Though, for some reason I can make it to New Orleans in 4 hours.

Re: Driving Times to Destin

Asheville, NC -- I don't know the distance in miles, but the time is always between 9 hours and 9 hours 15 minutes, no matter the route which I take. That includes gas fillups, quick eats, and dog poops along the way.

EDIT: you can add another 15 minutes if Destin is your destination. It wouldn't be mine, as the only thing I like in Destin in the Rave.

Jacksonville, FL - a drive I take often, is about 4 hours and 40 minutes with one stop.
It's also probably one of the most arduous point-to-point drives in florida - the monotony is just brutal...
FYI - there is a couple of non-stop flights between Pcola & J'ville each day now, a service I wish they would introduce out of Eglin...

I think your time is wrong. I once went from Sandestin to the west end of Destin in 2 hours, and the trip back was only slightly better. -- Glad it wasn't raining or it would have been worse. Since then, I have turned around in the middle of non-moving traffic on Hwy 98 many times.

Re: Driving Times to Destin

Sad but true. I've done that before myself. I miss the old Destin. Wish I had taken more pictures. I miss my old buddy the Green Knight. Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end....

...okay, true confessions. I am a mind reader and knew you were going to post this. I really don't need driving times to Destin as that is not my Destination. But, I will be calling Dr. Skunky in April and have him babysit me through the Skunky Way.

Whatever you do, don't make your one stop at Jimmie's. Especially the one on the north side of I-10. I forget the name of the town, but it's between Madison and I-75. Getting in and out is a nightmare and could turn your 4 hours & 40 minutes into 6.5 hours.
